Jimi Hendrix is one of the most creative and influential artists of the 20th century and completely changed people's concepts of what was possible with the electric guitar. In 1969, during the Woodstock music festival, Jimmi Hendrix played an alternative version of the National Anthem. Some may think this does not represent American values because it was at Woodstock which was a big protest of the Vietnam war. However I think Jimmi Hendrix and everyone else there were perfectly within their rights and regardless of what the message of Woodstock was. He still played the national anthem which is a sign of respect for our country. For much of Jimmi’s early childhood, he was raised by his mother because his dad was fighting in World War II.

Jimi’s early years weren’t so easy. His parents went through a rough patch in their marriage and got divorced in 1951. Hendrix was only at the age of nine when his parents split. His mother died when he was only fifteen. She died of liver cirrhosis because of her drinking habits.
