Introduction
John Cabot was an Italian navigator and explorer. He who was also the first European to discover the coast of North America. John Cabot was born in Genoa, Italy somewhere around in the 1450 and died in 1509 late after his successful voyage he later died in 1509. His father, Giulio Caboto, was a spice merchant. John Cabot had a brother named Piero. John Cabot was 11 years old of age when he learned sailing and navigation from Italian seamen and merchants. In 1471, Cabot was got accepted by the a religious confraternity of St. John the Evangelist.

In 1474, John Cabot married a young woman nameds Mattea. The couple had three sons: Ludovico, Sancto and Sebastiano. Sebastiano would later follow in his father’s footsteps, becoming an explorer in his own right. Hearing of opportunities in England, Cabot traveled there and met with King Henry VII, who gave him a grant, who gave him a grant to seek out, discover, and find new lands for England. In early May of 1497, Cabot left Bristol, England, on the Matthew, a fast and able ship weighing 50 tons, with a crew of 18 men. Cabot and his crew sailed west and north, under Cabot’s belief that the route to Asia would be shorter from northern Europe than Columbus’s voyage along the trade winds. On June 24, 1497, 50 days into the voyage, Cabot landed on the east coast of North America. The precise location of Cabot’s landing is subject to controversy. Some historians believe that Cabot landed at Cape Breton Island or mainland Nova Scotia. Others believe he may have landed at Newfoundland, Labrador or even Maine. On his 3rd expedition, Jean Francois aimed to establish a colony with him. After that, he returned to France earlier than he would have liked to because he had no success. Jacques Cartier led and went on a lot of voyages in North America in the 16th century. This made a significant impact on now’s exploration and colonization in Canada. He explored the Eastern coast of North America, and Newfoundland, and discovered and mapped out the interior of the Gulf of St Lawrence.

King Henry is motivated to grant Cabot these rights due to Cabot’s own journeys in the past, and great traveling skills. For example, Cabot was believed to have traveled to Mecca in search of spices. Therefore, Henry VII decides to grant Cabot to travel in all directions expect for the south, because that is where the Spanish were. Cabot and his sons now had the opportunity to claim the lands that they had discovered. The King has faith in Cabot to find new lands to get money out of them.
Columbus was not satisfied though. He wanted to sail, so he set off for Ireland and Iceland with the merchant marine in 1477. Columbus continued to sail and trade, traveling down West Africa and learning about Portuguese navigation. In 1484, Columbus asked King John II for aid in crossing the Atlantic, but he was denied. He refused to give up, though.
It is know that Christopher Columbus is the one who discovered America first, but surprisingly he is not. There were more people to discover America before him. So why does Christopher take all the credit for discovering America? Columbus takes all the credit because he was the one who opened America to Europe, and he broke the barrier for people to conquer the western side of the world. Besides he also brought disease to America and 90 percent to the population were ill.
In 1779 Sir Alexander Mackenzie (Fur trader and explorer) reaches Canada. Mackenzie was one of the first European explorer to cross North America. He had a lot of part in the North West Company with trading. Later in his life Mackenzie would go on to do many things one being his trips to the oceans in 1789 he made it to the Arctic Ocean and in 1793 he made to the Pacific Ocean. Mackenzie also wrote a book called “Voyages from Montreal to the Frozen and Pacific Oceans”.

On March 25, 1584, Queen Elizabeth of England, granted Sir Walter Raleigh a charter for the colonization of North America. Raleigh created an expedition led by Philip Amadas and Arthur Barlowe to explore the east coast of North America. They did not know that the next month would be something that stayed in the history books, for years to come. Over the next year they would travel the Atlantic in search of the new land. At the time they arrived it had come several months later on the 4th of July.

He thought he had reached Asia when he landed on an island in the Caribbean Sea. In fact he had opened up to Europeans a new world with two continents—North America and South America—and many islands.
Christopher Columbus was one of the greatest explorers known to man. Columbus had many different reasons for his explorations. Later, the main reason for his explorations was selfishness. Just like many other explorers before Columbus, he wanted land, he wanted power, and he also wanted gold. The reason for his very first voyage to what he thought was India, but later was found out to be Central America, was to get land for Spain.

From a young age, Magellan studied navigation and sailing and worked in the royal court. As a young man, Magellan was a great soldier for Portugal. He traveled to Asia to fight in many wars and during one, his leg was severely injured.
