John F. Kennedy was the youngest president ever elected but not the youngest to assume office. The youngest, Theodore Roosevelt was just 42 years and 322 days when he assumed the presidency following William McKinley’s assassination in September 1901. JFK was born to Joseph and Rose Kennedy. Rose Kennedy would have nine children, four boys and five girls. She kept notecards for each of them in a small wooden file box and made a point of writing down everything from a doctor’s visit to the shoe size they had at a particular age. John Fitzgerald Kennedy was named in honor of Rose’s father, John Francis Fitzgerald, the Boston Mayor popularly known as Honey Fitz. Before long, family and friends called this small blue-eyed baby, Jack. John was …show more content…
Kennedy was never a healthy man, sustaining injuries and sickness throughout his life. As president, he was famous for having a bad back, but many people had forgotten about his mission nearby the Solomon Islands. Back on August 2, 1943, it was a hot, moonless night in the Pacific. Patrol Torpedo boat 109 was idling in the Blackett Strait along the Solomon Islands. Jack and his men had orders to attack any enemy ship on a resupply mission. With almost no warning, a Japanese destroyer emerged from the black night and smashed into PT-109, cutting it in half while igniting the fuel tanks. After five hours of clinging to debris from the destroyed PT boat, the crew made it to Coral Island. Kennedy decided to swim out again hoping to flag down a passing American boat. None came. Kennedy then swam back to shower, but strong currents and his chronic back condition, made his return difficult. When he reached the island again John fell ill. After he recovered, the PT-109 crew swam to a larger island. They believed it to be Nauru Island, but it was actually Cross Island. They met up with two natives from the island who agreed to take a message south. Jack carved his distress message into a coconut shell: “Nauru Is. Native knows posit. He can pilot. 11 alive need small boat”. The message reached Lieutenant Arthur Evans, who was watching the coast of Gomu Island. Kennedy and his crew were then paddled to the island. A PT boat then took them back to Rendova. Kennedy was awarded …show more content…
Kennedy was campaigning in Texas, he was aware that a feud among party leaders could jeopardize his chances of carrying the state in 1964. One of his aims for the trip was to bring democrats together. In Dallas with the rain finally stopped so the bubble of the convertible was left off for the procession. The procession travelled along a ten-mile route that went through downtown Dallas on their way to Trade Mart where the president was scheduled to speak. Crowds of eager people lined the streets and waved at the motorcade which held the Kennedys. The car turned off main street at Dealey Plaza around 12:30 p.m. As it was passing the Texas School Book Depository, gunfire rang out in the plaza. Kennedy’s car sped off to Parkland Memorial Hospital as the president had been shot. Little could be done for the president as he took shots to the head and neck. John F. Kennedy was pronounced
(pg 118).” In this moment that Louie and the crew members crash, Louie is drowning but eventually makes it up to shore. He finds his friend Phil and the tail gunner, Mac and they all live the on rafts. While in the rafts, they have to struggle when Mac has also eaten all their chocolate and all their water is done. However, Louie shows his endurance throughout their lives stranded in the sea.
Have you ever wondered what happened to the “best president to ever live?” John F. Kennedy was assassinated on November 22nd, 1963 by Lee Harvey Oswald, although there are many conspiracy theories not many believe it was Oswald. JFK was shot, and killed near downtown Dallas, texas close to Dealey plaza. The reason he died is also unknown due to the Oswald giving no information. The assassination of John F. Kennedy was unjust because he established the peace corps, and donated all his presidential yearly salary to charity; however many people believe JFK was the reason the nuclear war with russia almost started.
He was born in a log cabin near the town of Detroit. He was the son of a cavalryman under general Joseph Wheeler. John entered vanderbilt university at age 18,but only stayed there for one semester. He was the thirty-second vice-president of the united states. He was the most powerful man in congress when he chose to join franklin Delano.
The bullet from the rifle went into tho the back of Kennedy’s neck, causing his windpipe to tear, and the bullet exited his throat. If there was no explosion in the back of the motorcade, Kennedy would have survived. It was not long after Lyndon announced John F. Kennedy’s death to the shocked Americans. Lyndon Baines Johnson was the new President taking over the United States (Kaye,1988). While Johnson was President, he declared a National war that was based on poverty and also witnessed the Civil Rights bill become a law in 1965.
We probably all know what happened to Kennedy. The press and C.I.A place Lee Harvey Oswald for the blame. I don’t think he was the only one involved. First,we need to talk about the bullet.
President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was an important American figure in the time he was alive and in his presidency. However, it all came to a very violent end. The President was going from state to state trying to get people to vote for him in the next election. He was at a motorcade in Dallas, Texas. At around 12:30 in the afternoon, gunshots came from behind the cars and struck the president in the back of the head (“JFK Assassination”).
Mrs. Kennedy rarely went with her husband on political outings. Her and Texas Governor John Connally and his wife were also riding in the convertible along with JFK. As the convertible passed Texas Book Depository Building at 12:30 P.M., Lee Harvey
This to many conspirators shows a downward trend in his shooting ability. Also Oswald's rifle was sub par and many conspirators believe his gun could not have performed as well as it was reported. In addition, eyewitnesses such as Nellie Connally (who was sitting in the presidential vehicle), stated that there were four shots fired and the one shot that hit her husband, Governor Connally (who was sitting in front of President Kennedy), was a different bullet then the one which penetrated JFK. Many also bring into account the angle each shot came from. With the snipers nest being behind Kennedy and to the left, the fatal shot to his head would have forced his head forwards and to the right; but in reality his head went back and to the left.
(Cawley 86) After winning this office position, Kennedy started thinking about running for a nation position because at the National Democratic Convention Kennedy’s name was nominated for Vice President of the United States. Ultimately, he lost the nomination by second place but this close loss encourages President Kennedy to run for the Presidency. (Cawley 86) He ran and won the presidency in 1960 only to lead to his assassination two years later in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1962. (Cawley

My grandmother’s memory of this day includes her entire town having off from school and work, so that they could watch the funeral. One event that stood out most to my grandma during the funeral was how Kennedy’s kids and wife were handling the loss of this important person in their life. The kids were very young when this event happened and they were most likely very scared of what was going to happen next. Many people still visit Kennedy’s grave in Arlington National Cemetery located in Washington
His siblings were raised to both physically and academically super competitive versus the average youth of the day. JFK’s father was a very wealthy and controversial politician as his large fortune had come from both legal investments and illegal bootlegging. While his father served as an ambassador to England, JFK served as his father’s political and personal secretary where he learned an incredible amount of diplomacy and statesmanship. JFK graduated from Harvard before WW II and joined the Navy as a PT boat commander in the South Pacific where in 1943,
John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born in Brookline, Massachusetts on May 29, 1917. John, also known by “JFK” or “Jack” was the 35th President of the US. Before his presidency Kennedy racked up political experience with serving time in Congress. Kennedy would serve in both the House of Representatives and the US Senate. While on the raft, Louie held himself together trying to calm the men, “Louie reassured [Mac] that the squadron would come for them, that they were likely to be found that night…” (Hillenbrand, 2010, P. 128). Also, Hillenbrand purposefully paces the reading slowly while he is on the raft to give the reader a small glimpse of the effort that it took for him to keep sane. “The coolness of the ocean beckoned and couldn’t be answered, for the sharks circled. One shark, six or eight feet long, stalked the rafts without rest, day and night.
Although the guys insisted there were no planes available, the lieutenant had them take the B-24 Green Hornet. “There was only one ship, the Green Hornet,” “We were very reluctant, but Phillips finally gave in for the rescue mission”( Hillenbrand 96). After taking flight, the plane began to experience engine problems and began to go down. The men prepared for crash landing into the Pacific Ocean. Louie, Phil and Mac survived the crash, but were stranded on a raft.
