Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the most important men in history. He is the spear head of the equal right movement. His goals were to have equal right between all people no matter what you skin color is. King was imprisoned in a Birmingham jail, the reason why, he was a part of a non-violent campaign. King wrote "letter from Birmingham Jail" for eight white religious leaders. He addresses this in a statement the eight men created, Kings Letter wanted to address why his activities were "unwise and untimely"(584). Kings argument is rhetorically effective through his use of ethos, logos and pathos, he uses these to convince and compel his audience.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was a very established man who influenced America to make leaps and bounds in regards to racial injustice. He was born on January fifteenth, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia, and led a very normal, two parent childhood, his father being a preacher and his mother also being very involved with the church, along with his two siblings. Martin realized during his youth what a devastating toll inequality was taking on America. Dr. King followed his father and grandfather path when came to education. When he got older he had been a part of leadership for the civil rights movement. The civil right movement was taken place from December 1955 to April 1968. Throughout his leadership he ended segregation for all African Americans in the United States. In 1964, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. famous speech “I Had a Dream” became a Nobel Peace Prize Lecture and along with “Letter from a Birmingham Jail.” He also was known as the Man of the Year for 1963. Martin Luther King Jr. was a strong political leader who discussed the segregation of African Americans. MLK also was a minister and Noble Prize winner; he was also a leader in The National Association of Colored People (NAACP). Many African Americans opened up to what he had to say and followed his strategies of a nonviolent act in the Civil Rights Movement. MLK was one of the most important black leaders in his era where not only did he touch the hearts of many blacks but also grew to have many enemies with whites and other leaders who didn't agree in his nonviolent strategies and beliefs.

I've always admired Martin Luther King Jr. Early in life, I learned that he fought for the rights of, not only me but, my friends and family. Life in the America wasn't always like it is now. At a young age I understood how he transformed the landscape of America and gave more meaning to the term “equality”. He benefited society in unimaginable ways. It's difficult to imagine because we live in the society he dreamed of. He is my hero. More recently, though, I've had time to consider how and what people have changed to improve me and society.

Martin Luther King Jr. was a man that was willing to do anything to end segregation of the white and black people. He would be the man to dare and break the unjust law that was set upon colored people. He would do so by not promoting violence or any acts of harm toward others. Kings states, "One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws." King's words, correspond with the above assertion, of how he was going and able to break the unjust laws put on African Americans in the nineteen sixties. To King nonviolent means of protest are the most effective way to bring about change, and also the best way to give others an understanding of why the change is necessary.

Martin Luther King Jr. had a big impact on us during the 1950s and 1960s.
