There have been millions of serial killers who are homosexual, but has someone ever wondered about their reason for killing? Many have different reasons finical gain, jealousy, or even hatred for a specific group, even themselves. John Wayne Gacy is one of the most famous homosexual serial killers out there and his reasons for killing stood out among the others. His reasons for killing were contrasted with other serial killers, they seemingly were more hateful and horrendous. John Wayne Gacy killed 33 young men and boys due to his abusive childhood, his relationship with his father, the ostracization he went through as a child, and the raging homophobia he grew up with. (“John Wayne Gacy” - Beautiful Minds) Throughout his childhood, his father seethed abuse, beating Gacy any chance he would get. He was abused often with a razor belt. Even though there were beatings he would also verbally abuse him, which made him think he wasn’t good enough to be his dad’s son. (“John Wayne Gacy: The Real Life Serial Killer Clown.”) When he was 7 years old, he and a childhood friend were accused of molesting a girl, not knowing if it was true or not, his father beat him very badly. (“John Wayne Gacy: The Real Life Serial Killer Clown.”) There were also two incidences where Gacy almost lost his life due to appendicitis, but his father thought he was faking so he neglected him. (“Inside John Wayne Gacy’s Dark Childhood.”) Even from the ages of 14-18, he was in and out of the hospital, and his father still thought that he was faking. Even going as far as to verbally assault him saying that he was faking for attention. Which resulted in his father verbally abusing him even further calling him a momma’s boy or even going as far as that he would end up queer. He was known to be an abusive alcoholic, not just abusing Gacy but also his entire family. (“Serial Killers in Film: John Wayne Gacy: True Crime Background.”) Even when he was little he would physically abuse him just for fun. Even beating him for not doing a task correctly. (“The Serial Series, Part 10: John Wayne Gacy.”) After this horrific childhood, Gacy still worshipped his father and saw him as a hero. He idolized him and believed every word that came out of his father’s mouth. Since Gacy’s father was homophobic, he would often accuse Gacy of being too feminine. (“John Wayne Gacy.”) Gacy was not athletic but he would try to be so he could seek his father’s approval, but his father never paid attention to him. (“John Wayne Gacy” - Beautiful Minds) He was also molested by a family friend, but he was so afraid his father would blame him that he kept it a secret from his whole family. (“John Wayne Gacy” - Beautiful Minds) As Gacy got older he got into more altercations with his father. Once he pushed his father into a wall out of anger, after the altercation he was aroused by the anger that was between them.
