When Dr. Jonathan L. Walton walked on to the stage and began stating that TCU is a perfect place for him with football and Chickflia, I knew this would be a great presentation. Within the first few minutes Dr. Walton really began to open my eyes when he explained how the Bible is the power of God and the potential of life as a person of faith. To me the Bible always represented God’s teachings and God’s words and I never really looked at it as the power of God or the potential of life. When Dr. Walton expressed how the Bible, or something referred to as an ancient text, is not necessarily the final word of God, it made me stop and think what the Bible really could be interpreted as. He goes on to explain that the Bible is not seen as the last word of God because the scripture in the Bible is inspired, but not exhausted at an interpreted level, which makes more sense than the actual word of God. …show more content…
Walton explained that God may be the same, but we are not or the world as a whole is not the same. We are often faced with challenges, like technology or moral matters, that would not have mattered or even existed back when the scriptures and the Bible were created, so there was no possible way for the authors to realize what knowledge we have gained or the events that have happened, so the world has evolved and changed. With that, it means that we cannot always to the Bible and the scriptures to it’s literal level like going around and cutting peoples heads off because that’s what the ancient ancestors of Israel did because that is not right or legal today. With just those few topics/examples, I really feel as though Dr. Walton was a great speaker and really made my mind open up to new ideas and thought about the Bible and the meanings of God’s
Allen Dwight Callahan’s The Talking Book: African Americans and the Bible connects biblical stories and images to the politics, music and, religion, the book shows how important the Bible is to black culture. African Americans first came to know the Bible because of slavery and at that time the religious groups would read it to them instead of teaching them by letting them encounter it for themselves. Later the Bibles stories became the source of spirituals and songs, and after the Civil War motivation for learning to read. Allen Callahan traces the Bible culture that developed during and following enslavement. He identifies the most important biblical images for African Americans, Exile, Exodus, Ethiopia, and Emmanuel and discusses their recurrence and the relationship they have with African Americans and African American culture.

Most likely, one has heard about the story of Pocahontas and John Smith. However, John Smith was not as loving and kind as he was portrayed. In the letter Address to Captain Smith, the speaker, Chief Powhatan, Pocahontas’ father, takes a condescending tone and addresses to the English settlers, especially John Smith, how the chief’s generous hospitality has not been appreciated. Literary devices such as rhetorical questions, antithesis, and repetition, diction, and pathos and ethos are exercised by Chief Powhatan to address his purpose and produce it as impactful as fully possible.
The Biblical Interpretation: A Roadmap is a book helping the reader explore the process of interpreting. Frederick C. Tiffany and Sharon H. Ringe describe this process as a journey of questioning and reading. But, if one of these new explorers has no map, then he or she will get lost, and in a less metaphorical sense, he or she will lose attention of the text. Fortunately, the authors give their learners a guide on how they should create their roadmap. The following paragraphs will expound upon a few of the points Tiffany and Ringe expressed.

There are clear statements that indicate the Bible is not only God breathed, but it is a whole and true document. The Rock not only mentions the Bible being God breathed, “Holy men of God, being moved by the Holy Spirit, wrote every word of Scripture, and it is divinely and uniquely inspired, being absolutely trustworthy in all matters of faith and conduct,” but it explicitly states that because all scripture is God breathed, “all Scripture in the original manuscripts are inerrant in that it conveys exactly what God wants us to know and is complete in it’s present form.” The Nicene Creed never once discusses the Bible nor it’s inerrancy. It is interesting to see that they left this out and also committed the idea that God spoke every word of the Bible and it was written by his holy
In Albert Raboteau’s Slave Religion, I expected to read a book dripping with rant-filled commentary. Judging the book solely on its cover, I would not normally pick up –or even read– a book that did not jump out at me from the design on the cover, and this book did not jump out. However, Raboteau’s depiction of the life of the slave did jump out at me. In elementary and high school, teachers briefly touch on the topic of slavery and its role in America, but religion is never touched on with slavery –at least my teachers never taught them together. So finally getting to learn the two side by side, it was fascinating to see how Africans created a version of their own religion of Christianity.

When he says this he also says it can cause an effect on people's realities and change the world of mindset that they are in. Because then it spreads and they truly believe that.
The writer references the bible to convince the students that they could change the world. The writer compares the student's power to that of God, stating that they were “created in the image of god” and they have the “ power and the will to choose right from wrong. ”This comparison connects to the theme of this speech, for in the bible god has the power to change the world, and with this comparison it gives the idea that man alone can change the world. This gives the students confidence knowing that they alone have the power of god to choose the right from the wrong, This enforces the idea that one person can change the world.
John Dickerson is an American journalist who happens to have lost his notebook on a plane, containing all record and memories of his life experiences. He not only lost those moments, but the reminiscence and emotions that reading back to them could of caused. Many other people keep a record of life events, probably not on notebooks but most definitely on social media. Dickerson makes reference to two authors who share the same idea, “putting our lives on pause” to capture those moments you are so impulsed to share can make one lose insight of “living in the moment.” However, he believes that one can live in the moment and also keep record of it.
As I read on, I noticed that God’s word is intended for all people. Given, the word of God is sometimes difficult to interpret hence that’s why we need the Church to teach us. Nevertheless, we can conclude that the book
