THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Ever since supermarkets and hypermarkets, have appeared they have likewise played an important role in food supply. The distribution structure is usually recognized by enterprises and purchasers. This stores are increasingly valued by consumers, compared to their commercial formats, which produces the gradual withdrawal of the traditional markets.

But for the present, Joners Supermarket is losing its luster have become and stagnant on what they are for the past 32 years since it was established. The management has not implemented changes or even laid innovations in the store since it is still surviving. Even in such a situation it doesn’t mean that there is no problem.
The Joners Supermarket is facing a big problem because they are losing their customers, the quality of their products is not the same as before, the fast turnover rate of their employees and the number of their competitors in Lolomboy. The store already reached its maturity stage. Should Joners Supermarket innovate or continue the system still in effect since they are continuously making money yet merely surviving because of it?

According to Raymond Vernon each product has a life cycle and its starts with its development and ends when it declines. This chart shows that Hu-Value’s market share was increasingly and then had a decline in 2000. After this plummet, Hi-Value had to recover and slowly build their market share back up. In Attachment 5, the chart shows Hi-Value Supermarket Sales in Centralia from 2000-2002. All stores gradually went a little amount up in sales each year. The Hi-Value supermarket on West Main Street does the best in sales out of the 3 Hi-Value stores.

This industry will be faced challenged when the location is not easy to be reached and the population of the areas are not much as expected. For example, the Aeon supermarket at Mid Valley Megamall Kuala Lumpur, the sales of this location is guaranteed as the population daily at Mid Valley Megamall in 120,000 peoples approximately (malaysiandigest, 2014). Other than that, most of the supermarket are operates or leasing in a popular shopping malls. This is because peoples nowadays are not going to supermarket on usual day or without purposes. For instance, Giant hypermarket at Plaza Sungei Wang is a good example.

Delhaize was one of the pioneers in the Belgian market by opening its first fully self-service supermarket in 1957 in place Flagey, inspired by the American model of distribution. Other distributors started to copy Delhaize in terms of store format (400 m) and in the concept of self-service (with pre-packaged meat and frozen foods); the era of traditional store with service at the counter was over. This theory is proposed by Araham Harold Maslow by year 1954. There are 5 different needs in this theory which consists of: Physiological; Safety; Belongingness; Need for esteem and Self-actualization. Maslow believed that a man being motivated by the needs he wants to satisfy. So, the fundamental needs must be satisfy in order to begin motivating behavior (Adiele and Abraham, 2013). 1) Physiological Physiological needs is fundamental and most basic need for human survival.
Five Levels in Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and How They Influence Us Abraham Maslow, who was an American psychologist created a hierarchy of needs. There are five levels, with the basic needs at the bottom. He explains that if the basic needs are not satisfied we cannot move up the pyramid, despite a few instances (Lilienfeld et al., 2016). The first level is physiological needs which is satisfying hunger, thirst, and fatigue.
