Who is this person? - This person is Joseph Lister. Describe the person - Joseph Lister was born into a Quaker family in 1827. He was an excellent student, and he graduated as a bachelor of with honors in 1852. He spent time with the greatest teacher of surgery (James Syme), and he ended up marrying his daughter. Lister was horrified by the dangers of operations, and he decided that he was going to make operations safer. What were his/her greatest accomplishment? - Lister’s greatest accomplishment was making operations and surgeries extremely safer. He learned that microorganisms caused infection. To stop this, he created methods of cleaning and dressing wounds with a solution of carbolic acid, and it decreased the occurrence of gangrene remarkably. He also introduced the sterilization of surgical objects including the use of heat and carbolic acid. His ingenious products such as the iMac, effective branding campaigns, and stylish designs caught the attention of consumers once again. In addition, Steve Jobs invested fifty million dollars in Pixar Animation Studios, and he helped them grow to four billion dollars. What effects have his/her accomplishments had on society. Jobs was credited with revolutionized the computer industry by making technological machines such as phones and computers smaller, cheaper, and easy to accessible to everyday consumers. Apple products have transformed the way people work, play, and listen to music. Steve Jobs created new and different ways of computing. What is your opinion on the person and why?
