In the story (The Birthmark) Aylmer who is described as a brilliant scientist his wife after a couple days of their marriage has she ever thought about removing the birthmark on her cheek. Aylmer immediately upsets his beautiful wife by saying “dearest Georgiana, you came so nearly perfect from the hand of Nature that this slightest possible defect, which we hesitate whether to term a defect or a beauty, shocks me, as being the visible mark of earthly imperfection”(Hawthorne 340). Georgiana sees the mark as a charm. She embraces the imperfections and blemishes.

The cancer researcher Christoph being the first scientist to sit down and explain in simple terms the beauty of the Hela cells and basic cell theory to them. The patience and humility and empathy that man showed the Lacks children brings tears to my eyes.

Despite her prior tag of the shrew, Petruchio manages to change the views of the men and the behavior of Katherina. She expressed to her sister and the widow that her “husband is thy lord, thy life, thy keeper”. Katherina went as far to say that she was “ashamed that women are so simple to offer war where they should kneel for peace” which goes against her previous beliefs harshly (Shakespeare 5.2.85). Katherina being “tamed” was considered an accomplishment to Petruchio who was patted on the back for transforming the “curst shrew” into his faithful wife (Shakespeare 5.2.86). After Katherina was the perfect wife Petruchio placed bets on her and used her as a trophy.

Cultural diffusion is the spread of cultural beliefs and social activities from one group to another. Cultural integration is where a group with their own culture adapt the beliefs, practices, and rituals of another group without losing any of their original culture. Cultural lag refers to the idea that culture takes time to catch up with other things such as technology. For example, millennials are going to be better able to use smart phones than their parents. Gen X kids will have an easier time using new apple gadgets than the millennials.

Aylmer in “The Birthmark” becomes obsessive over his wife, Georgina only flaw. Her birthmark. In “Dr. Heidegger's experiment”, Dr. Heidegger uses his old friends as an experiment by giving them an elixir that will make them young again. The symbols play a big role in describing the desire of perfection.
