Juniper Tree (Common) – is about 6-7 meters high and has greyish green leaves with white bands down the centres in whorls of three narrow shoots which face upwards. The male flowers are small yellow cones and the female flowers are green cones which mature into small black berries. The branches are mostly rising upwards and outwards and are quite thin, knarled and twisted and have smaller branches shooting off from these. The bark is greyish brown shaggy and peeling. Ash Tree (Common) - is about 25 meters high with green ovate or elliptical shape leaves with serrated edges and pinnate arranged in opposite pairs. Yew Tree (Common) - is about 22 meters high, broad with a pointed tip. The leaves are green long and narrow, arranged on opposite sides. Male and female flowers grow on different trees, the male are small yellowish flowers and the female brown and similar to acorns. The fruits are small red and berry like and ripen in April. The bark is scaly, purplish grey and the red branches spread out to the sides far and wide with smaller branches shooting off from them.
Willow Tree (Bay) - is a dense dome shape tree about 18 meters high. The leaves are green, oval and glossy with serrated edges. The male flowers are yellow catkins and the female green catkins which develop into fruit capsules for seeds in late spring. The bark is dark grey, scaly, fissured with ridges and the branches are brown, smooth and slightly curved, growing upwards and outwards with smaller branches growing from them.
