“Kids at Hope” has become a part of the Herndon High School’s framework for all students and the entire staff. Kids at Hope is “a strategic, cultural framework designed to engage entire communities to support success for all children, no exceptions”. It is a cultural framework with strategies based on three leading principles and practices: We Believe, We Connect and We Time Travel. The “We Connect” component of Kids at Hope supports the notion that as long as children have meaningful and sustainable relationship with caring adults they will be successful. Those caring adults are called the ACES.
Michael has over twenty years of experience in education as a superintendent, principal, teacher, and coach. He works hard to provide the best for his students, his staff, and the community while maintaining professionalism in every aspect of his life. Michael is not afraid to make tough decisions and to take a stand to implement those decisions. He is not an administrator who closes his office door. He feels a responsibility to be a part of the daily life of every building in his district.

At Harmony School of Discovery we have a very tight knit group of students. When Discovery first opened as a new school it opened it’s doors to kids from everywhere and from every which background. Us students were forced to come together and start fresh with virtual strangers, leaving behind everything familiar. This reality forced us to build new bonds with people going through the same hurdles as us, adjusting to a new school and a disparate environment. We learned how to nurture and preserve close relationships among our classmates, relationships between teachers and students, and relationships between students and administration.
In the article "Why we need a different national conversation about mental health on college campuses," written by Adam Weinberg on August 29, 2022, author discusses the need for a more proactive and effective approach to mental health support for students. Although there is a present awareness of mental health concerns on college campuses, the author contends that it has not resulted in major advances in mental health resources for students. The article outlines several obstacles, including stigma, a lack of resources, and a reactive rather than preventive approach to mental health. The author advocates for a more holistic and proactive approach to mental health, including more financing for mental health resources, prevention and early intervention, and community-based assistance. This article also underlines the significance of a larger national dialogue that includes all stakeholders, including students, teachers, administrators, and mental health experts, in order to develop a long-term and successful approach to tackling mental health challenges on college campuses.
My principal, Dr. Grant Bell, is aware of how his presence in the school building make a difference for the teachers, students, and visitors that enter the school and therefore he is intentional with his actions. He walks the halls during transition times in order to interact with the students, but also to tell the teachers that he is grateful for the time and dedication to the school. Many times he can be seen in the lunchroom visiting with the students to hear about their day. To some, this may seem like a small, irrelevant task but to the people in the school, it goes a long way. His effort to tell everyone how he is proud and thankful to spend each day with them can often be the difference between a good day and a bad day.
This desire manifests itself in many ways, yet at its core is building relationships with students and teachers and then extending these relationships to families and the community. With students, I seek to be visible, greeting the students at the door and working to learn their names. When discipline is necessary, I believe that restorative correction is the best avenue to change behaviors while maintaining relationships. As teachers spend the most time with students during a typical school day, they are essential team members in improving educational outcomes and promoting an inclusive culture. I detail my strategies for working alongside teachers in the subsequent question; however, I strive to support them by creating a culture of trust, safety, training, and collaboration through professional learning communities.
Justin has made me aware that he is going to Ludington Schools next year. Which is a big step up. I would know, I used to go to Traverse city catholic. Anyway, I want to inform you and Justin that if he ever needs help, email me and I will help him. He 's a good kid and make sure he stays that way."
To make the most of the entire educational experience, it would behoove teachers to demonstrate compassion and understanding in regards to the disorders and differences of their students. James 5:11 reminds me that the Lord is compassionate with us when we fall short of expectations. His love does not waiver regardless. The verse states, “Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.”
A child’s education is affected by various elements such as gender, race, environment, economic factors, privilege, and more. These elements shape the outcome of a student’s educational experience and learning. They also determine what and how students will learn. In order to create an appropriate learning environment, there should be a sense of community. In other words, the common goal should be helping students succeed and reach their maximum potential.
It is a win to win situation. Successful school interventions and strategy improve student outcomes for the quality of the culture.(Helme, Lamb,& Australian Institute Health and Welfare, 2011). Vision Lamar CISD vision with the collaboration of the administrators, teachers, and parents would be to ensure inclusion students and ELL students reach a proficiency and potential of the skill set.
Furthermore, while safe spaces can be hubs of conversation, they are however, conversations between like-minded students (Source C). The aforementioned editor, Jonathan Sperling, reiterates the exigency in which college students must experience the plethora of distinct views, opinions, and beliefs of other pupils, in order to gain a well-rounded perspective on different subject matters. Additionally, students are able to learn and grow from these various viewpoints, accumulating an intellectual insight which will better equip them to handle “real world” challenges (Source
