ABSTRACT Before everything else, what is the K-12 education and where did it start? The K-12 education system is a kind of public education system practiced by the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and most European countries. It was first made available to public schools before the private schools began to adapt it. It is comprised of 13 grades from kindergarten to the 12th grade. “We are ready.” Affirms the Filipino President Benigno Aquino III, that the Philippines and the Filipino people are ready for the big change in the education system – that the Philippines is ready for the K-12 which adds two more years to the education cycle that they have now. Backed by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority …show more content…
Thus, this idea of adding years to the present curriculum is not new.
The K+12 Curriculum envisions “holistically developed learners with 21st century skills” (Deped Primer, 2011). The K+12 program offers 12 years of basic education - six years of primary education, four years of secondary education and an additional two years of senior high school to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop life-long learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle level skills development and employment, and entrepreneurship.
Now, Why does the Philippines need this new kind of educational system? The present curriculum is described as congested. This means that students do not get enough time to perform tasks because the curriculum is designed to be taught in a span of 12 years and not 10 years. The more obvious result of this is the fact that most high school students graduate without the readiness to take upon higher education or employment. These students are not equipped with the basic skills or competencies needed at work. Furthermore, the short duration of our basic education program puts Filipinos who are interested to either work or study abroad at a disadvantage. This is because other countries see our 10-year program as incomplete, which then, causes Filipino graduates to not

Though there are still some problems that the government needs to solve before they can successfully implement the plan. The proposed program is good but it still won 't work if the needed elements to make it work isn 't present.
Such elements includes the number of public school classrooms plus the adequate supply of classroom chairs, books, etc. If the government could allot a bigger budget to educational needs, then we could be one-step ahead towards the success of the K-12 program.
Furthermore, parents especially those who belongs in the poor sector should be properly informed and motivated of the advantages of the K-12 Education Plan. This is very important since parents plays a major role in providing the child 's school allowances, supplies, and fees for other school projects and activities. Add to that the support of parents towards their children in terms of guidance and teaching.
Once this succeeds, it is best hoped that Filipino students would be more literate, skilled, and competitive to be able to find jobs more easily and contribute to the country 's pride as well as the country 's
To Senator Kamala Harris, I would like to bring into consideration the fact that schools do not get enough funding for K-12 education. Schools have too many students but not enough room or teachers to hold and to teach all the students. The schools cannot give the students a better learning experience because they do not have the funds for it. The schools do not have funds to provide a better environment for students because f this, students tend to not do well in school. Studies have shown that if students receive a better learning environment, that they will do better in school and is more likely to succeed in life.
Although on paper our schools seem to meet the needs of everyone, the U.S. school is nowhere near perfect, and reforms and actions need to continue to be implemented.
This will allow many people who can’t afford college to have an opportunity to attend, without having to stress about falling in debt or dropping out simply because they couldn’t pay. In his book, Friedman states, “So a poorly funded and staffed high school today is a pathway to a dead end” (361). He continues by quoting Marc Tucker, “Therefore, we have to find a way to educate all of our young people to a very high standard. Otherwise, if you don’t upgrade their skills, the only way the low-skilled can compete is by driving down the wages” (quoted in Friedman 361).
Also, there needs to be a major education reform budgetwise. Public schools should be abolished and the government should just give people a certain amount of money and they can choose which school to use it on. Education should be left to the private sector because they do it best. Taxpayers who pay to go to private schools should not have to pay for public
It does not implement things that could actually be beneficial to the students besides in school. Things that are essential and important to know in life for example, learning how to file for taxes or even wilderness survival skills. A current reform that is being discussed about public education is the implementation of small learning communities. A small learning community is a system in which students are placed into small groups that have similar career interests and are then taught the same courses for that are needed to peruse that career. “The learning community is a way in which students can help one another and progress more rapidly” (Booth, Eric A., et al).
problem lies in the fact that most public schools have fixed costs from heating costs to teaching staff that cannot easily be adjusted or downscaled when a few students leave in a given year. The result equates to “squeezed funding at traditional public schools” (Daniel Simmons Ritchie). School choice is not necessary.
Many schools in Kansas have been under payed, and kids still attend those schools. These schools have many disadvantages and their learning abilities can be limited due to lack of technology and educators. Roughly forty percent of the schools don't get the financial support they need from the government and state funding according to the Department of Education. The schools are being under payed and tax proportions have been low so the money going to the schools is low as well. The future depends on these kids and when they are limited in education, they won't be the best version of themselves.
In this practicum I will narrate an interview that was done with a Hispanic parent. I will describe her and her family structure. I will also elaborate on her involvements in her children academics, and teacher parent relationship. Also better ways to encourage parents to get involved in their children education will be added, and how teachers can assist with making the parents feel welcomed inside of the classroom.
“ Under the Obama administration, the federal government functioned as a giant octopus, bypassing families, communities, and states in order to reach its tentacles into the school curriculum, teacher evaluation, values conformity and even restroom policies.” ( Ashford 2017) Her idea is to let kids of different religions build their own schools or choose which schools they go too. The funding will be more evenly distributed giving disadvantaged kids the chance to learn. These disadvantaged kids will have the choice of what school they can attend too.
Although this plan is great for the economy, some might argue that there are certain repercussions that should be taken into consideration. For example, by making community college free, the program would cost $60 billion in the course of 10 years in a cost-sharing program with the states (Butler 1). Although this sounds like it’s a substantial amount of money, it is manageable. In regards to the benefits of the proposal, this is a small price to pay. In the long run it is better for the economy.
The passage of this bill would give parents the choice of where their kids can go to school, and help give a “head start” by granting parents a voucher worth a set amount of money to put towards enrolling their children in private education. Unfortunately, these vouchers are not enough to enroll a child in private-school, meaning
This allows school districts with little or no money for building expansions to handle a growing student population and save millions of dollars in construction costs.” (Nair 2). Saving so much money could help schools afford better teaching equipment, which would most likely improve student grades. Next, a drawback is that it could be hard on families if the children have different school schedules. The change could make it difficult to plan a family vacation, go to summer camps,
Finally, the school board is worried that this funding and jobs from this program will take away from other school district. This is a non-starter; it was stated that the funding would be private funding. So therefore, the school district can’t rob Peter to pay Paul, they should see this funding as a gift

“This approach is bad economic policy and bad education policy. An unprecedented federal spending increase for education will not improve economic growth -- and past experience strongly suggests that this plan will not improve American educational performance” (lips 2). Increasing school funding the wring way can cause the economy a lot of money and may lead to huge budget cuts or even jobs lost. There is a lot of public school across America that are underfunded so trying to fund them would cost a lot of money. Increasing school funding is very risky because if the graduation rates don’t go up when students get older they would face the problem of being in debt and won’t know how to pay it off .
