The Electoral College is the process to which the United States elects the President, and the Vice President. The founders of the Constitution came up with this process. This was done to give additional power to the small states, and it was done to satisfy them. It works by the citizens of the United States electing representatives called electors. Each state is given the same amount of electors, as they are members of congress. Each elector must cast one vote for President and one vote for Vice President. In order to win the electoral college, and be nominated as President of the United States, the candidate must gain 270 of the 538 electoral votes. In an instance where no candidate receives the 270 votes needed, the House of Representatives
In todays current society, the Federal Constitution provides that the times, places, and manner of holding elections for Senators and Representatives is prescribed in each state by the state legislature. Congress is allowed to grant power by holding elections, which is where power is matched, by the state to control over the election process for state offices. Overall, state qualifications to vote are set by the states, subject to certain restrictions in the Constitution and its Amendments and the authority of the federal government in enforcing the Fifteenth Amendment's Equal Protection Clause. The authority has limits based in the Constitution and its Amendments. States may not use certain factors in determining qualification. Factors such
The main draw to merit selection is the commissions, which “minimize political influence by eliminating the need for candidates to raise funds, advertise, and make campaign promises, all of which can compromise judicial independence” (AJS, 2010, p. 1). Unfortunately, the commissions are the main drawback as well because many people think it is easily politically influenced. New York is a good example to analyze which one of these ideals is true since it changed from partisan election to merit selection in its highest courts, the court of appeals (Becker and Reddick, 2003, p. 25). Remember, merit selection most commonly uses retention elections to retain judges in office, but something unique about New York’s system is they do not use retention elections, which have been shown to be politically influenced like partisan elections (Reid, 1999, p. 68 and 69), subject to change with public opinion (Canes-Wrone, Clark, and Park, 2010, p. 229) , and have a low turnover rate (Carbon and Berkson, 1980, Abstract), like most states with merit selection of some kind. Retention elections have the main purpose of trying

The Electoral College is established in Article Two of the U.S. Constitution, it states that “Electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for two persons. The person having the highest number of votes shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole numbers of electors appointed”(Hardaway 79). The twelfth amendment modifies this procedure to require balloting for president and vice president be done separately. Although there were sixty-nine electors who participated in the first election, we now have a total of five hundred and thirty-eight. To win the presidency, a candidate must receive two hundred and seventy votes. California has the highest number of electors, with fifty-five. Tied for last are

As our nation first formed, there was much concern about the role of our nation’s leader and how powerful they should be. When the Articles of Confederation were written in 1781, it did not provide for an executive branch. In 1787, at the first Constitutional convention, the delegates agreed that there had to be an executive branch which would be separate from the legislative branch. They felt this would avoid any corruption and would provide for checks and balances to prevent dictatorial rule by this branch of government. Though small, the executive branch plays a crucial role in running the United States.
Sparta was perhaps the first totalitarian state in history and our founding fathers would have learned of it through the work and writings of Plutarch. Sparta was a warrior society that believed in individual sacrifice for the common good. Studying this history allowed them to learn “about the strengths and weaknesses of republics that emphasize the collective good over individual rights”(23). What the founders derived from this, Richard argues, is that they “preferred to rest their republic on the natural rights of individuals, even while urging sacrifice for the common good”(23). Samuel Adams admired spartan “frugality, selflessness, valor, and patriotism” (31) so much that he hoped that the city of Boston would evolve into a “christian Sparta”(31). This demonstrates how much admiration our founding fathers had for the ancient city

The Electoral College is a system where each state is given a number of electoral votes determined by the number of the representatives in the state combined with two electoral votes for the number of senators, and three electoral votes from the District of Columbia, totalling five hundred and thirty eight votes. The people then vote for their candidate as president and the winning presidential candidate in that state wins the electoral vote for that
In some cases, the elections are opinionated, where the judge nominee is associated furthermore has the support of a political party. Each state procedural law has its own requirement for the standards for the election of their judge. For an example, the state of California elections, any qualified lawyer is qualified to run for a seat in the judicial office at election. The procedure is that of a non-partisan which provides that if a vacancy was to arises between elections, then the governor has the approving authority to appoint the judge. Election of judges in the procedural law maintains the supervision of justice consistent with dominating the social ideology. The known problem with this type of system comes with situations that lead to social problems, mostly if the judge that was elected make his/her decisions for the sole purpose “for the vote”, ("Procedural Law,"
Throughout the twentieth century, citizens of many countries have fought for their personal rights and freedoms. But not all places have experienced expansions of freedom, and they stand as a threat to the free lands--they stand as an example of what could easily be. This fear is exploited in two short stories that are set in very different places: Ha Jin’s “Saboteur” which is set in communist China and Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery” which is ostensibly set in mid-century, small-town America. In both “Saboteur” and “The Lottery” short stories, the citizens allow themselves to be controlled by a larger force, be it their political government or their traditions. It was obvious that all of the citizens have choices on where they should stand--
The people established the nation, so they have the right to decide what happened to it. The topic at hand is citizen working with their government. Both Arthur’s 5th movement and Noveck’s movement demand more a more civilized approach to the government. Arthur’s solution seems to appear well on paper. Similar to Noveck’s idea on an open government. While Arthur’s movement is toward his courts, Noveck’s movement is for the 21st-century government. Both movements have potential to succeed. Some phases of Arthur and Noveck’s plans will fail; however, their end result is somewhat successful.
When meritocracy is shown in the political world, the country is governed by people chosen by their own merit or status. Whereas, when cronyism is shown in the political world, the country is governed by people with connections or money.
One of the biggest problem of every country or society is that most of the rulers cares only about themselves or even though they act for the community people are unsatisfied with the results. This situation can happen because of minority government, corruption, self interest but the result is the same, what has been said during the elections by politicians has not become reality because of one or more of these accidents. Of course, as the actions of a general influence the entire army in the same way people are conditioned by their politicians ' choices and people are not happy to work for a country that does not improve or even worse does not recognize their importance as workers and contributors. What is the point of paying taxes and work hard if the state does not give something in return
