This is a passage about one of the first basketball players to ever set foot on a basketball court. He was a great hero during the Civil Rights Movement.

Throughout my years of participating in high school basketball, I have overcome many challenges. My freshmen year, basketball started in a way I never expected. Continuing on, I understood the real meaning of hard work, and what it takes. Lessons I learned in basketball will carry on throughout my life, helping me to become a successful adult.

Jackie Robinson (Jack Roosevelt) was an American baseball player. He was known to play second baseman in Major League Baseball and was the first African American to play professional. Jackie Robinson knew that the fans and players would not treat him well. Some threatened his presence, tried to hurt him, and he even considered the thought that other pitchers would aim for him when he was up to bat. In 1947, he agreed to play with the Brooklyn Dodgers. That year, he accomplished the Rookie of the Year, a National League MVP in 1949, and was awarded the World Series champion 6 years later. But through all the racism and segregation, Jackie Robinson continued to play outstanding and became known as the legend of the first African American MBA

Athletes around the world strive every day to not only succeed on the court or on the field, but they also hope to make a difference off the field and in the community. Many aspire to be role models as well as sources of inspiration for youths, and for many of them, their dreams of being professional athletes sprouted from watching their predecessors compete. Puerto Rican baseball player and philanthropist, Roberto Clemente, was one of the most well regarded players in sport’s history and his story stretched well beyond his Hall of Fame career on the field. Clemente’s statistics ranked him among some of the best players in baseball history, but his role in the Latin American community and his powerful ethnic pride and humanitarianism impacted

Kenny Washington explored the world of the National Football League by becoming the first black NFL player.He encountered prejudice however he did not let this stop him from achieving his goal to play professional football. His dream was to play in the NFL.

Imagine you are sitting at a baseball game eating cracker jacks or at a football game yelling because your team scored or you could be yelling at the refs because they made a bad call. There are many people that love sports but there was also a lot of people that loved sports when they became popular in the 1920’s. Sports have came a long why since then. They have became more competitive, the skill levels have improved a lot, and they are also easier to watch and keep up with because of how far technology has came.

Jackie Robinson was a game changer for all sports. He broke barriers in baseball allowing African Americans to play baseball. Jackie was hated at first but he didn't say anything and let his playing do the talking.Jackie didn't only change baseball he helped his community and the Civil Rights movement. Jackie is the most honored baseball player today he has his own day called Jackie Robinson Day in April and every player wears his number.

First black baseball player, selfless, and courage are three attributes that describe Jackie Robinson. Many people know that Jackie Robinson was a baseball player, but he was so much more. As a well known baseball player, Jackie Robinson showed pro sports that it is all right to have a black person play. He broke the professional baseball color barrier. He is the reason our sports are open to all. He left a lasting legacy as a hero to all, someone who gave up his life to undiscriminate professional sports.

Robinson has been one of the most influential people throughout history, Jackie has had a huge impact on today's world because of the numerous ideas and actions he has done.

The start of my freshman year was a thrilling experience for me. To start out my freshman year I made the schools Varsity soccer team, a huge accomplishment for me. However, I was naïve to the coming situation to myself. I was on the path to continuous harassment from teammates as I was surrounded by seniors. Many of the seniors had egos, full of themselves in every aspect possible. It was a rude awakening to the reality of high school to be apart of this team as a freshman. In retrospect, I believe that my transition into high school would have been smoother if I would’ve asked to be on the Junior varsity. Although this would have hindered my growth as a player, it’s a sacrifice I realize now that would have been worth it.

Jimmie Crutchfield was born on May 15 1910, in Ardmore Missouri. He served in the military during world War II for a year and was an All- Star baseball player in Negro League baseball. He position on the team was an outfielder. Crutchfield was know as a defensive specialist in the outfield and a speedy offensive threat.

Jackie Robinson was an American Major League Baseball second baseman. He was the first African American to play in the major leagues in the modern era. Jackie Robinson was born January 31, 1919 on a carpet plantation near the town of Cairo, Georgia. He was the youngest of five children. Not long after Jackie's birth his father, Jerry Robinson, left the family in 1920. Soon they would move to Pasadena, California. As a child growing up with poverty Robinson and his minority friends were often times excluded from many recreational activities. As a result Robinson ended up joining a gang but was soon persuaded to leave it by one of his friends.

It was the middle of January, dead of winter of my eighth grade year. Coach Brooklyn Howell, the Lady Cougars basketball coach came up to me and said “come tonight, 5:30 at Byrnes Freshman Academy to try out and see if you like lacrosse.” I did not really know if I wanted to play in the cold, because I was so used to playing in a warm gym during the cold winter months. Lacrosse really did not seem like a sport that I wanted to play. But I tried it out anyway.

Do you know who the first latino in the Hall of Fame and the 11th all time player to get 3000 hits. The answer is Roberto Clemente and let me tell you more about him. He played for the Philadelphia Pirates. He was married to Vera Zabala and they had three kids together. He was born on August 18th, 1934 in Puerto Rico and died on his way bring supplies to a island that they needed after an earthquake he died on December 31, 1972.
