The year of 1929 brought upon a whirlwind of emotions through the United States. This was the beginning of the Great Depression, as well as the birth of a young child named Kathleen Steubben, originally Kathleen Blackman. For the duration of her growing years, she attended a public school in Long Island, New York. Here, most girls wore a skirt, bobby socks, and either a sweater or a blouse.
