Katniss wants to eat everything in sight, but there's too much, she keeps passing her leftovers to Peeta. He goes to Octavia, one of his makeup people and asks her how she can eat so much. Octavia almost fell over laughing at him saying this. All she did was hand him a clear glass, he quickly figured out that it makes you puke so you can eat more. Peeta was appalled at this sight because in District 12 food is scarce. Peeta tells Katniss about it and all she can think about is her mother treating children that haven't eaten and her mother prescribing food, something the parents can't give. Moments later Portia (someone from her makeup crew) appears with a large man, Plutarch Heavensbee. Plutarch is the new head games maker and he asks Peeta if he can take Katniss for a dance, Peeta reluctantly says yes. Katniss and Plutarch go and dance while conversing. Plutarch pulls out a gold stopwatch that randomly shows a mocking jay. This catches Katniss' eye and she asks about it, Plutarch seemed really suspicious when Katniss brought it up and he wished Katniss good luck and left. For this task I will be presenting about Katniss Everdeen from the hunger games and how she is a tragic hero and I will be relating this back to the greek hero Oedipus. What makes a hero, a hero as stated by the reproject “Are people who transform compassion (a personal virtue) into heroic action (a civic virtue). In doing so, they put their best selves forward in service to humanity. A hero is as an individual or a network of people that take action on behalf of others in need, or in defense of integrity or a moral cause” (prezi.com). As you all know Katniss is the main character of hunger games and is identified as a tragic hero from the beginning to the end of the story.
During Katniss test, she realizes that this (the test) is an attempt from the rebels to see if she’s able to follow their instructions while in the middle of battle. This goes against her instincts, but she continues to do so in order to pass. She’s sent to
The Hunger Games: Chapter Notes Chapter One: It was the morning of the reaping, Katniss was reflecting on the events of her life. This introduces the characters main family, prim, and her mother. In order to clear her mind, Katniss went hunting in the woods near the edge of District 12. While there, Katniss 's friend Gale showed up to I an escape plan before the reaping can began. Katniss declines the offer and heads to the square for the reaping.
The announcement said that there may be two winners of the Hunger Games if they are from the same district. This urged Katniss to find Peeta, as she's walking she sees a blood trail. As she follows the blood trail she hears a weak voice saying “Don’t step on me”. It was Peeta, Katniss nursed him back to health. She washed his wounds and wrapped his leg up.
There are several themes in the book, each one has a significant meaning to the storyline. The first symbol that describes the theme of abuse of power is government control. The reason that they hold the Hunger Games is because it is a dystopian society and most of the districts are poor and the capitol likes it because it keeps them entertained just because they believe that they are superior to everyone else who lives outside the capitol. To explain this more into detail, the government controls all the districts and all the districts have to follow the rules or else there is a serious punishment.
At this point in the story, they have finally reached the surreal moment of winning the Hunger Games. In chapter twenty, page three hundred and forty five, the text states," '... Ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased to present the victors of the Seventy-fourth Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark!' I give you---the tributes of District 12!' " Katniss's perseverance has paid off.
“Hero’s are made by the path they choose, not the power they are graced with.” - Brodi Ashton. Katniss Everdeen is the protagonist of this novel, who has to obey society’s unfair rules. Katniss chooses volunteers for her sister Primrose at the district 12 reaping to participate in a yearly event called The Hunger Games. She is forced to fight against the other tributes chosen from the other districts.
This change of thought and decision making is only natural due to the nature of the Hunger Games. A large giveaway that Katniss is making decisions that benefit her is the fact that was killing people in the arena. An example of this is when a group of “career” tributes (the tributes that have trained for the Hunger Games since they were young) and Peeta chase Katniss into a tree in an attempt to kill her. They decide rather than follow her up, they would wait it out until she had to come down. Instead of crawling down and accepting her fate Katniss notices a nest full of tracker jackers, which are genetically modified wasps with deadly poison, and decides to cut it down onto the group below her.
Katniss and Peeta’s appearance, altered by the capital, is important for their survival before, during, and after the games. In the Capitol of Panem, appearances are everything, especially the pre-games rituals, such as the chariot ride into the Capitol or the Gamemaker's scores on the tributes. Katniss and Peeta, both coming from a poor district, are not liked as the other districts are, such as Districts 1, 2, or 3, but this does not restrain their chatriot ride into the Capitol. “The crowd’s initial alarm at our appearance quickly changes to cheers and shouts of ‘District Twelve!’
Theme # 1- No matter what tyrannical environment you live in, your identity can never be changed The Hunger Games focuses on the theme of identity and how it is immutable in any tyrannical environment. This tells the audience that no one can take away your identity and it can only be controlled by you. In the movie, 24 tributes are forced to enter a game where they kill each other in order to survive which led them to losing their identity and becoming pawns to entertain the people of the Capitol.
Katniss and Peeta develop a complicated relationship throughout the novel, and conflicts of interests, plus the entire nature of their relationship can be can be easily scrutinized, once closely examined. From the beginning of the novel, Peeta goes out of his way to care for Katniss, and at one point suffers phsical abuse from his mother in order to feed her a loaf of bread. “The boy took one look back to the bakery as if checking that the coast 32 was clear, then, his attention back on the pig, he threw a loaf of bread in my direction. The second quickly followed, and he sloshed back to the bakery, closing the kitchen door tightly behind him.” (Collins 32).
