On October 1, 2014, Kennesaw State University announced that it was going to be a tobacco free campus. In other words, all types of tobacco including cigarettes, vaporizers, hookah pens, and dip was prohibited on the campus. The reason behind the ban of tobacco on campus is because “Kennesaw State University is dedicated to maintaining a healthy working and learning environment for employees, students, and visitors” (Policy at KSU: Smoke/Tobacco-Free Policy). If that is the case then why is it allowed for other unhealthy items to be sold on the campus? There has been a big controversy over the ban on campus between smokers and non-smokers. Non-smokers are glad because they do not have to deal with the possibility of having second hand smoke anymore and the ones who do smoke feel like a right is being taken away from them. KSU had designated smoking areas which were out of the way, and had other paths that allowed students to walk around the smoking area with just a few extra steps. In a way the students that do smoke were already having their rights restricted. How much second hand smoke is too much? “A meta-analysis of 52 studies prepared for the 2006 Surgeon General's Report on Smoking and Health showed that nonsmokers …show more content…
Smoking is a habit that many people have. When one wakes up in the morning they need a cigarette or when they are under stress a quick drag will soothe the nerves. People have habits such as drinking coffee as well. Before they can start their day, they need a cup of coffee with five creamers and five packs of sugar. “And some studies found that two or more cups of coffee a day can increase the risk of heart disease in people with a specific — and fairly common — genetic mutation that slows the breakdown of caffeine in the body. So, how quickly you metabolize coffee may affect your health risk.” (M.D.) Who is to say that one of these habits are worse than the
March 7, 1980, in Piscataway High School two freshman girls were caught smoking cigarettes in their school’s bathroom. A teacher had found the girls and escorted them to the principal’s office, where they had met with Assistant Vice Principal Theodore Choplick. One of the girls immediately confessed to smoking cigarettes in the bathroom while her companion denied smoking the cigarettes or ever smoking at all. The companion, known as T.L.O. (Tracy Lois Odem) was suspected of lying. Based on the other girl 's confession, the assistant vice principal brought T.L.O. into his office where he demanded to see her purse.

Other interesting links between the society and caffeine
Firstly, the reason I had to quit coffee was simply because I was probably mildly addicted and it wasn’t benefitting me at all. For instance, I’ve had already consumed so much coffee in my life that it was like water to me, the caffeine wouldn’t actually work on me anymore. Furthermore, the only reason I’d consume it
The view point argues that the smoking ban imposes restrictions to the right of smokers. The articles compares smokers to non-smokers about topics like, littering, second hand smoke, and the rights of the minority smokers and the majority non-smokers. Levy states, “It is under-inclusive because irresponsible non-smokers who improperly discard food wrappers and soda cans are major contributors to litter. By all means, let us keep the beaches clean. Anyone who flips a cigarette butt onto the sand may deserve to be fined” which is explaining how there is not a difference between throwing a cigarette butt on the ground and throwing a soda can on the ground (Levy, 1).
Some may call it Coca-Cola, Frappuccino, and Coffee, but I call it my addition. While everyone has their versions of a satisfactory drink, I consume coffee and other caffeine drinks due to my upbringings, day to day exposure to coffee, and its high level of addiction. I came to this assumption after reading my diet data that showed a huge amount of my diet came from caffeine drinks. Since I can remember, I always had caffeine in my diet. It didn’t matter what kind it was; a caffeine filled soda pop, ice coffee, normal coffee, or even coffee candy.
Caffeine is a chemical found naturally in few plants all over the world. From these plants it is processed into its pure form and then put into other things such as soda, energy drinks, tea, and pills. Energy drinks and soda are some of the most widely marketed products in the world, even though they contain the highest concentration of caffeine outside of pure caffeine supplements. It is a stimulant that affects everyone in strange but semi predictable ways. Research has been done on this topic since the 1920’s and many different conclusions have been reached.
Coffee can even help sad people combat their sadness and make them happier. “In a Harvard study published in 2011, women who drank 4 or more cups per day had a 20% lower risk of becoming depressed.” An exciting benefit is that coffee may help people live longer because it can help people to prevent some of the peril diseases. First, coffee may decrease the risk of type 2 diabetes, which is a huge health problem in the United States. Studies show that the people who drink the most coffee can decrease their risk by from 23% to 50%.
The body will naturally venture to dilute the heavy intake of sugar and caffeine, but without the balance throughout the body, then the body begins to fail. This is an issue that we have to take
A. Drinking coffee can be beneficial in moderation, but when consumed in immoderation, it can be harmful. 1. For example, “ researchers have found a 21 percent higher risk of death among people younger than age 55 who drank…more than four cups of coffee a day” (“Drinking More Than 4 Cups,” 2013). 2. The study that found that 21% statistic was observational and involved nearly 43, 727 people.
Contrary to what many people think, drinking coffee is not associated with an increased risk of heart disease. In fact, drinking coffee does the exact opposite; it decreases the risk of contracting heart disease. One study in Japan showed that drinking at least 1 cup of coffee on a daily basis reduced the risk of dying from heart disease by 38% in men. Yet another research carried out by Harvard School of Public Health in conjunction with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center concluded that drinking at least 4 cups of coffee daily reduced the risk of heart failure by 11%. Studies have also shown that drinking coffee can help minimize the risk of arteries being
