Literature adapted into film presents a new visual experience to the audience through color, movements and sound effects. When reading literature, the reader must imagine the descriptive language; thus, in film the image is already presented with a vivid detailed creation. Through stories, the writer is who controls the evolving set of actions and plot events; however, in a film several professionals such as: producers, directors, and actors come together to create a rein action of the story by graphic presentations in cinemas ("Adaptation: From Novel to Film"). For my fiction into film, I decided to read “Cinderella” written by the Grimm’s brother in 1812. As the adapted film, I selected the newest Cinderella movie, directed by Kenneth Branagh, …show more content…

After spending thirty years of war, many German’s had died early and others were left to face deadly diseases. As the short story, “Cinderella” begins with the horrifying tragedy of her mother’s death, and soon after the replacement of her evil stepmother. This was a common arrangement at the time; young children were left without their biological parents and mistreated as servants by their stepparents. In the film Cinderella, Barangh continues to represent the old years of 1812 from the original story. However, he transitions
In “Cinderella”, by the Grimm Brothers, the authors utilize a multitude of fairy tale genre conventions such as frequent usage of rhetorical devices, magical creatures, and the classic “Happy Ever After” fairy tale ending, to emphasize the importance of genuineness and the dangers of pursuing superficiality. The authors use several rhetorical devices such as symbolism and juxtaposition
In each story she is beaten down only to rise up through the ashes from the fire her “family” ignited. Cinderella, the Grimm Brother’s version, “Cinderella”, and the “Little Golden Book Cinderella”, have vast similarities, but in each one of the story there is something that stands out. The theme, archetypes, and the deaths in all of the Cinderella stories play enormous parts in what makes these stories similar, and what makes them unique. The theme in each story plays a significant part in what makes each story unique varying from vengeance, to hard work and respect.
Determination in “Cinderella” “Cinderella”, the original fairytale, is found in a collection of stories created by the Grimm brothers. The story of “Cinderella” is used in order to display and teach children and adults a way of living. This fairytale reflects values such as perseverance and determination. Cinderella, the protagonist, is an outcast her family, as her father is her only blood relative. Cinderella's step family treats her very poorly so she runs away into forest and meets a charming prince who she then falls in love with. The prince assists she goes to a ball being held soon to see her again. Right when Cinderella gives up all hope to go to the ball her fairy godmother appears and makes her a beautiful dress, glass shoes, and a carriage out of a pumpkin with a spell that will make everything disappear at midnight. Ella goes to the ball and as soon as she knows it she is at the ball dancing with the prince. She was having so much fun she barely notices it is about to strike midnight and rushes out leaving only her glass slipper to track her.
It is nearly impossible for a tale to be passed down generations and still stay the same. The fairy tale “Cinderella” told by the Grimm brothers is almost 206 years old, and differences can be seen between the modern “Cinderella” story and the original. In “Cinderella,” by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, a young girl named Cinderella is treated like a servant by her family. Luckily she is gifted with beautiful clothing, enabling her to attend a festival, meeting her one true love. Cinderella gets married to the prince, and the step-sisters are punished by getting pecked in the eyes by birds.
She was raised by her stepmother and her father, who treated her very poorly, and had to grow up with two beautiful but evil stepsisters. She was treated like a servant and had to sleep near the fireplace every night for warmth, wake up early to cook and clean, and only had a smock to wear during the day and night. One day, there is a king’s ball in the palace for the prince to find a wife and every eligible lady is to attend, but not poor Cinderella. She cried to her mother’s grave and the birds gave her fine dresses, shoes, and lavish accessories to go to the ball for three days, where she meets the prince, falls in love, and later lives happily ever after. The Disney version is about a young girl who is raised by her stepmom because both of her parents died and is forced to be a maid and wait on her step- family’s hand and foot.
Cinderella was of a completely different social class than the prince, but with disguise and enchantment, she won over the prince with her beauty, and he did not even know the girl she was
Compare and Contrast Essay Once upon a time there was a story about a girl named Cinderella. There have been many versions of this story written. There is a version for almost every culture, but they all lead back to the original version told by the Brother’s Grimm. Although the story has changed through time, the main plot stays the same. Cinderella is a young girl who is forced into being a servant for her family.
Cinderella is known as a girl who is hounded by her stepmother and stepsisters after losing her parents, then overcomes hardship by marrying a prince with the help of a fairy godmother. Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister is a novel written by Gregory Maguire, which takes place in the Netherlands. Contrastingly, Aschenputtel is a German tale written by the Brothers Grimm after Germany recovered from the Thirty Years War. With these distinct backgrounds, the cultural values in each novel differ, but the morals the authors share have never changed. Each version provides a unique take on topics such as humility, gender roles, and the relativity of beauty, but both deliver the universal moral that pure kindness is rewarded.
Grimm’s Cinderella was only the first stepping stone to analyzing the story and realizing that there is a more complex meaning behind the characters and plot. First of all, it differentiates between this slightly more gruesome version and the well-known Disney version. Although Cinderella is a fairy tale, the audience finds out from Pattaja and Bettelheim that this fairytale gets deeply involved with sibling rivalry, has a complex mother/daughter dynamic, and brings out both conscious and unconscious behavior in children. Bettelheim’s focus in the article is to communicate the presence of sibling rivalry and the effect of this fairytale on the subconscious of children. When kids watch “Cinderella” they subconsciously relate to her and make themselves the victim.
Every version of Cinderella mostly focuses on the same main points and ideas but has different details. “Aschenputtel” and “The Little Glass Slipper” are very similar stories, but they contrast in characteristics and details.
Mistreatment in “Cinderella” Charles Perrault’s fairy tale “Cinderella” consists of a beautiful young girl that is mistreated by her stepmother and two stepsisters as a form of jealousy. While beauty is a treasure, graciousness is priceless. Ultimately Cinderella represents the persona of the average fairy tale, she manages to overcome her obstacles and find love with her “Prince Charming.” Cinderella is faced with the hardship of being mistreated by her family throughout the story, this however does not break her pride.
My first textual evidence from the grimm brothers is that the story says “There she was obliged to do heavy work from morning to night, get up early in the morning, draw water, make the fires, cook, and wash. Besides that, the sisters did their utmost to torment her - mocking her, and strewing peas and lentils among the ashes, and setting her to pick them up. In the evenings, when she was quite tired out with her hard day’s work, she had no bed to lie on, but was obliged to rest on the hearth among the cinders. And because she always looked dusty and dirty, as if she had slept in the cinders, they named her Cinderella.” that is how they acted and this is what they got in return “So as the bridal procession went to the church, the eldest walked on the right side and the younger on the left, and the pigeons picked out an eye of each of them.
Cinderella comes from a wealthy family, and despite the fact that her stepmother makes her live an impoverished life, she is patient and modest. Madame Loisel, on the other hand, is born “into a family of artisans”, whose poverty is caused by a tragic error. When the prince finally finds Cinderella using her glass slippers, he brings to her wealth, happiness and love. However, Madame Loisel’s loss of the necklace starts her downfall. These similarities and differences make Madame Loisel a more realistic
