Mr. Kenneth Erickson, whom we all refer to as Kenny, has distinguished himself as a leader because he is a man who lives by his integrity and nurtures relationships (whether with staff, clients or friends) from a place of loving kindness – his heart. Kenny was a person I met while working as the Development Director for Abuse Counseling and Treatment, Inc. (ACT), the only licensed and certified domestic and sexual violence center in Lee, Hendry, and Glades counties, Florida. Kenny and his wife Christine were my very first major sponsors through Erickson’s Drying Systems for a fundraising event I co-coordinated with the Pediatric Dentistry of Fort Myers, called “Snow Day.” If you have ever spent a moment of time trying to coordinate fundraising …show more content…
No matter how successful I was raising money, or how many donations came in, the feeling of despair due to stories of trauma was constantly showing up within. My office in the administrative building at ACT in Fort Myers sat parallel to our front door, where victims would come in for counseling daily. There was a terrifying day when a man followed his spouse to a counseling appointment and he greeted her in the parking lot, threatening to cause harm. That day I was afraid would be my last, and while I LOVED my job at ACT, it took such an emotional toll on me, that I had to leave for my own well-being. Kenny offered me a position as Erickson’s Drying Systems Marketing Director, but I truly feel like he’s done more for me and my family’s life by allowing me to transition to work for him. In this role, I’m still able to help ACT and other nonprofit agencies thanks to our sponsorships budget. So far, we have already sponsored a fundraiser for Valerie’s House through the RPCRA, we are working on a diaper and toy drive for both CAC and ACT, and we have plans for much
As you know, a strong community is built upon its caring residents who reach out in times of need – who work together – who choose to LIVE UNITED. You and your employees have reached out to those in need through your past gift of $200.00 to the United Way of the Greater Dayton Area Ernst Fluid Power’s campaign. I sincerely thank you for your generosity. Your gift enables United Way of the Greater Dayton Area to fund 48 agencies and 100 programs that address the vital needs of those affected by the economic downturn within our community. And because of those continued needs, United Way is committed to seeking collaborative solutions with the for-profit and non-profit community in order to continue our mission of making significant strides
Attracting new donors, he increased the size of the foundation and because of his astonishing work the Lancaster County Foundation granted more than $600,000. In addition, He worked as chairman of the American Red Cross. He also served almost 20 years as a member of the Lancaster County Board of Assessment Appeals. Through his story, it shows us how he was professional in his work and
Throughout the last two years, working with both Andrew Michie and Theodore Beddoe, provided opportunities to see how two grown men from drastically different walks of life share many similar qualities. Andrew, a welder from Pittsburgh, came to South Florida when he was twenty-nine, starting a new journey and Teddy, a Florida native and five-star chef, at fifty-two gave up everything he had for one last opportunity at starting a new life. While from different walks of life, Andrew and Teddy share more values than either can see; through open-mindedness, courage, and humbleness they are equally gifted with the ability to help others.
Kevin Cowan improved the finances and changed numerous broken relationships into strategic alliances (Vanderpyl, 2012). The four strategic steps that he used were: 1) “get in their face”; 2) “offer to serve, rather than be serve”; 3) “weed the garden”; and 4) “give the credit away” (Vanderpyl, 2012). Cowan used servant leadership to turn adversarial relationships into cordial relationships. When considering the relational aspect of the situation, Cowan wanted to figure out the best possible way to help the CHR leaders out. He simply asked “what can I do to make your life easier?”
For the past two years, I have been involved in the Carmax Cares community service month. We provided assistance to the Foster Care Support Foundation in Roswell, Georgia. This organization sends out gently worn closes, shoes and other necessities to support foster care providers in the state of Georgia. We packaged items to be sent out and organized their warehouse inventory. On campus I am an active member of SABAC as well as the Georgia Club.
At the end of his presentation, we were all wondering what we could do to help this cause, to which he responded “tell 2 people about The Lost Boys”. The effect of ethos and pathos working together in Deng’s narrative made the audience care about the cause and want to know more about what we could do, therefore fulfilling the desire for awareness of the cause and of The Lost Boys nonprofit
Touchstone #3: Kenneth Young In the United States, there are approximately 2,500 criminals serving life without parole for crimes committed as juveniles. Among these child offenders is Kenneth Young, who was tried as an adult at 15. In the Summer of 2000, Young was coerced to participate in a series of armed robberies by his mothers drug dealer at the time, 24 year old Jacque Bethea. Young was charged with 3 armed robberies and 1 attempted robbery, and received 4 consecutive life sentences without parole.
Throughout my college career, I have been engaged civically through community service at various organizations such as Mentoring Majesties, Fannie Battle Day Home for Children, and Preston Taylor Ministries performing more than 200 hours of service. In addition to my college and community involvement, I have made advances in my future career to be a healthcare administrator by being selected to participate in the Community Partners Internship through Hospital Corporation of America. Recently, I have been invited back to the internship to participate in a new project that targets behavioral health and access to
Abstract Eric Edgar Cooke the ‘Night Caller’ has struck Perth with murder, stabbings, hit-and-runs and burglaries which during 1931-64 until his death. Due to a neglected childhood with a alcoholism father and bullying Cooke’s murderous out take on the world and random killings not only make his next target difficult to find but also Cooke himself. Studies on Cooke have shown his psychopathic styles of killing are not only unique but also the work of a ‘Nedland monster’ in Perth district. As Cooke was physically and emotionally abused from childhood he discovered his getaway through disassociation and imagination, obtained in order to boost his low self-esteem through self-aggrandisement, fumed against the society that ostracized him, thus
After a month or so she returned. I then managed the community service while she planned and constructed our public events. After a successful semester of being on campus we held interviews for E-Board positions. We interviewed for a publicist, community outreach committee, treasurer, community service chair and social action chair. With the organization catching the eye of the University as well as their partners and supporters, Tierra and I were being pulled in too many directions to plan; not to mention we were freshman and sophomores at the

I am grateful to experience what it is like to have an extraordinary employer. Not many people can say they had the chance to work for someone who is not only a strong leader, but an exceptional mentor. I had the pleasure of working as a Residential Assistance for Mr. Joseph at Florida Memorial University for a year, and I could not have asked for a better experience. His dedication and passion for the students at Florida Memorial University was refreshing and uplifting. In Residential Life, our main focus was the residence’s housing experience; however, Mr. Joseph sincerely cared about each student’s wellbeing and success.
Although most of my involvement has centered around politics, where I have been an active volunteer in the current election cycle, my service also extends to the homeless community in the Quad Cities. After recognizing the extent of homelessness in Davenport, my friend decided to start a nonprofit 5K to benefit a local shelter and I immediately joined in the venture. By working with the shelter rather than independently, we were able to avoid the faults set forth in To Hell With Good Intentions. Our good intentions have donated over $10,000 to King’s Harvest Ministries, who uses funds in a way that raises the standard of living for the local homeless
One hot afternoon, I sat down with a damaged boy, Angelo, who generously shared his peanut butter and jelly sandwich and story with me. This young boy taught me humility and selflessness that will stick with
