CHAPTER 2: BENEFITS OF KETOGENIC DIETING
1. Blood Pressure Tends to go Down
With high blood pressure (hypertension) is a major risk factor for many diseases.
These include heart disease, stroke, kidney failure and many others.
Ketogenic Diet is an effective way to lower blood pressure, which can lead to a reduction in the risk of these diseases and help you should live longer.
2. Reduced Blood Sugar and Insulin Levels
When we eat carbohydrates, which decompose in simple sugars (glucose), especially in the gastrointestinal tract.
From there, they enter the bloodstream and the level of blood sugar rises. Due to high blood sugar levels are toxic, the body reacts with a hormone called insulin, which tells cells to move glucose into the cells

and it's true. A part of the brain cannot burn glucose. Therefore, the liver produces glucose from proteins, if they do not eat carbs.
But much of the brain can also burn ketones, which are designed to be very low during the famine or when carbohydrate intake is.
This is the mechanism behind the ketogenic diet, which used for decades to treat epilepsy in children who do not respond to drug therapy.
In many cases, this diet to cure children of epilepsy. In one study, more than half of the children with a ketogenic diet, a reduction of over 50% of seizures. 16% of the children were seizure.
Very low carbohydrate diets / ketogenic are currently being investigated for other brain disorders as well as Alzheimer's and Parkinson
7. Weight Loss
A diet rich in 75% fat and 20% protein may not be necessary for adults to enjoy the benefits of the ketogenic diet. Many adults find successful weight loss in a moderate to low carbohydrate ketogenic diet with only the elimination of carbohydrates and increased calories and healthy fats approach to protein. Most adults with only the weight loss of carbohydrates in the 30% reduction in her diet and increased fat and 40% protein and 30%,
The supply of glucose to the brain and immune system is important as competitors constantly rely on instantaneous decision making to ensure they make effective strategic moves. Glucagon is the hormone which ultimately increases blood glucose concentration by breaking down stored glycogen in muscle and fat cells, increasing the breakdown of fats and increasing liver glucose production. Each of these effects lead to an increased amount of glucose present in the bloodstream, meaning more energy for body cells. When the level of glucose in the bloodstream drops, more glucose is required in order to provide ATP for energy. The secretion of insulin by beta cells is inhibited
Unusually low blood sugar levels, brain injuries, strokes, brain tumors, cancer, the used of drugs such as cocaine, medications and flashing lights can be the cause of a seizure. Epilepsy is a disorder in which nerve cell activity is disturbed and causes seizures. However, doctors can use several tests to determine if a person
Our bodies take in the glucose and turn it into energy we can then use. When we let glucose in, we are raising our insulin and glucose levels. Insulin is the hormone in people’s bodies that grants glucose access into our bloodstreams. However, insulin keeps our blood levels from raising or lowering, and it stores the fat to use for energy later on. Unfortunately, people have no control over the insulin function, though they do have control over the types of food they eat that contain certain amounts of glucose.
After eating a meal, your body breaks down the food
Moreover, typical absences usually last 9–12 s (Hooge, & De Deyn, 2001). Indeed, mutations of genes coding for GABA A receptors and T-type calcium channels have been linked to AS. More recent studies have found that Glucose transporters might also be linked to AS, however data is limited in this respect and offers further room for exploration. The pathophysiological theories hypothesized to date, have clearly always recognised the contribution of two forebrain structures, the thalamus and the cerebral cortex, and their fundamental roles in the generation of seizures.
One could easily supposed that a diet rich in meat and other animal products is the best diet to follow because it can improve brain health. According to Kris Gunnars, “This remarkable organ has evolved over millions of years. During this time, humans were omnivores. We ate both meat and plants. There are many nutrients in these foods that are absolutely critical for the proper function of this very delicate system” (5 Brain Nutrients Found Only in Meat, Fish and Eggs, par. 1).
70% of Americans suffer from these types of illnesses because of their diet. The goal I want to accomplish is to help people living in the U.S. have better mental health by making lifestyle changes in diet and exercise. The way I want to complete this goal is to convince people to give up sugar and carbohydrates and exercise for 30 days or more. Another idea is for people to go on a ketogenic diet, this diet will help lower the risk of getting diseases such as diabetes, certain types of cancer, cardiovascular disease,
“Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity” - World Health Organisation, 1946. Although there have been a number of ground breaking discoveries in science as a whole I strongly believe more can be done within neurology. Epilepsy affects more than 500,000 people in the UK that is almost one in every 100 people. I wish to study neuroscience as I would like to look into conditions such as this but also explore into neuroaesthetics. Having a close family member being diagnosed with epilepsy, I have been exposed to the fundamental importance of how to deal with seizures.
Potentially preventable cases of Epilepsy occur about 25% of the time. One way to prevent Epilepsy is to avoid trauma to the head, such as falling and car accidents. Another way to prevent Epilepsy is to have sufficient prenatal care when a baby is in the womb, such as having good nutrition. A third way to try and help stop Epilepsy from developing is to control high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, and excessive tobacco or alcohol use. This helps prevent Epilepsy that is associated with stroke, which is focused on cardiovascular
1. Project Background and Description An increasing amount of research is showing that a low carb diet is a strong choice for people with diabetes. Not only have low carbohydrate diets been shown to improve blood glucose levels and aid weight loss but evidence also shows the diet to be strong in terms of heart health. Low carb diets need not be overly restrictive and can be easily incorporated into your lifestyle without needing to reduce intake of vegetables and fibre.
Epilepsy has been known as the disability where the brain and nervous system conflict with each other in contact. Without proper care the victim’s body will shake violently nonstop. It is a disability that affects both the body’s function both mentally and physically. It can and may stay with its victim for the rest of his/her life. Some are fortunate to be seizure free while others cope with it.
A ketogenic diet, forces the body to enter a metabolic state called ketosis. During ketosis, the body develops a proficient fat burning state. This state uses the body’s fat as an energy source. Ketosis also has the ability to “turn fat into ketones in the liver, which can supply energy for the brain” (Mawer, n.d.).
Advantage #4: Assist with the end of fat. Advantage #5: They support digestion system. So far to date, there have not been any studies done on the impacts of raspberry ketones on people.
The name given to the condition where a pancreas either doesn’t produce insulin at all or doesn’t produce sufficient amounts is called diabetes. So when people with diabetes eat glucose, which is in foods such as breads, cereals, fruits, starchy
• Carbohydrate metabolism: • Gluconeogenesis: The formation of glucose from certain amino acids, lactate and glycerol. • Glycogenolysis: The formation of glucose from delglucógeno. • Glucogenosíntesis: The synthesis of glycogen from glucose. • Elimination of insulin and other hormones.
