Today, the Trump administration granted approval of Keystone XL pipeline. Although the long winded effort of protesters were able to delay further action, the project is back for more. To gain the approval of republican party, Louisiana Representative Steve Scalise tweeted, “Thank you @POTUS for approving the Keystone XL pipeline, creating thousands of jobs for Americans & unleashing our energy independence!” Unlike many of the tweets that say something along the lines of, “it’s happening and you’re going to like it” by the Republican party, I felt this one was good at highlighting benefits that Americans truly care about right now. However, their PR efforts continue to fall short. Many of the protestors are pointing to the state department report that argues that it would only require 35 full time employees and 15 part time employees once the pipeline opens. …show more content…
Their lack of care for the Native American community and their sacred burial grounds have caused the people to see the pipeline as solely a money maker that will lead to further pollution. I would recommend them at least addressing the people’s concerns to make it seem like they are listening. After addressing them, they could use a strategy to increase their approval ratings based on the ideas of the people. Or they could create even more jobs by implementing green energy projects, but I’ll let that one go. In class this week, we had our presentations of a company’s corporate communication strategy. It was interesting to see how other students tackled the project. Some focused on key aspects of the communication, like how Blaine talked about the management-employee relationship and communication tools. This also reminds us that each company centers their business around different stakeholders which makes their strategies so
Those who are in opposition of the pipeline can only hope and attempt to persuade the BC government to join the huge majority of British Columbian’s in demanding a stop to the construction and operation of the Enbridge Northern Gateway
The environmental argument is coming from a clash over the fact they are basically stripping the canadian boreal forest, the path of the pipeline extends across major aquifers, and pipelines tend to leak and destroy surrounding environments. In addition ccording to The Center for Climate and Energy Solutions State, “epartment’s draft SEIS found that oil from the Canadian oil sands is 17 percent more carbon-intensive than the average oil consumed in the United States... It is estimated that the U.S. greenhouse gas footprint would increase by 3 million to 21 million metric tons per year, or around 0.04 percent to 0.3 percent of the 2010 levels, if Keystone is built. Fortunately on November 6, 2015, President Barack Obama’s administration rejected the Keystone Pipeline XL after 7 years of dispute. As mentioned in the Wall Street Journal, Obama stated “the project would not have lowered gas prices, improved energy security or made a meaningful long-term contribution to the economy
The powerful words, “We stand for our people, for our nation. We stand for our brothers and our sisters. We stand for water, for life”(Urban Native Era), are chanted by protesters as the fight against Energy Transfer and its construction of the Dakota access pipeline ensues. According to MSNBC, this $3.7 billion dollar project in the making is half completed and will run through four different states including, Iowa, Illinois, South Dakota and North Dakota. Essentially, the pipeline will be delivering 470,000 barrels of oil daily along the 1,100 mile stretch (NBC).
After months of clashes from protestors and the police, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issued an eviction notice to the Dakota access protest camps. News articles such as Dakota pipeline protest camp: Ten arrested, dozens more believed to remain after evacuation deadline, by Mark Berman from the Washington Post and Arrest made in North Dakota, as group of pipeline protesters remain at camp, by William Lajeunesse from Fox News, describe the event that happened on the day of the eviction that resulted with their readers concluding with different implications of the event. Lajeunesse and Berman defined key ideas that shaped the view of their readers. They both choose to give and omit specific information that give their readers one side of the eviction.
The sententious construction of the pipeline will help…”create thousands of jobs”(DAPL:top pros and cons). By implying more jobs, it allows many people to have the opportunity to have a workplace in which they can earn the money to pay off and bills presented. Even if the pipeline can produce more jobs, but the pipeline would not cause any major incidents. Once the Dakota Access Pipeline is bonded into place, workers wondered if there, shall be a decrease in ant incidents than other major pipeline that recently resulted in spillages. The DAPL both pros and cons, states that there is a new way of “oil freight ages…to major refining markets in a more productive way towards the environment.”
“Benefits of Governmental Compromise Regarding the Dakota Access Pipeline” Nations all have unique governments and differences necessary for demonstrating successful leadership. Every country needs different assistance from their leadership, such as Rio requiring infrastructure or Somalia lacking political power. Some governments concern themselves with their politicians’ well-being more so than the people they lead, which creates a relevant problem in America. The United States Government can easily forget about Native American Reservations, or even ignore the people living on them. Recently, the United States Army Corps of Engineers has worked on the Dakota Access Pipeline project, which would cross over Native American ancestral lands,
The Trans Mountain pipeline has characteristics or properties of Natural Monopoly, so it falls into the products of natural monopoly. When there is an economic of scale, that is, average cost decreases as quantity increases, the natual monopoly occurs. As a result, one firm is able to supply total amount of the products at a lower cost in the market than two or more firms. If the govenment does not regulate the Natural Monopoly, it may not benefit the social welfare and the optimal outcomes. In other words, they will produce much less and charge a higher price than social optiaml lead to a high price, low average costs and high profits.
Canadian company TransCanada hopes to build Keystone XL a pipeline that carries Canadian tar sand oil from Canadian border to the Golf Coast. According to Derber “the pipeline extracts some of the dirtiest oil on the planet, a process that sends many polluting chemicals into the ground waters and releases methane, the most potent greenhouse gas, into the air, creating one of the greatest climate threat” (p. 115). A leak from a pipeline carrying the tar sand oil could cause environmental damage and pollute our drinking water and agricultural irrigation. The builders of the Keystone XL Pipeline are wilders. According to Derber, “environmental wilding in the natural environment, such as reckless polluting that causes global warming” (p. 11).
Controversy Surrounding the Keystone XL Pipeline To build or not to build, this choice will impact the relationship between the US and Canada and determine the level of dependence the US will have on countries that are not so friendly. “TransCanada’s proposed Keystone XL Pipeline would transport oil sands crude from Canada and shale oil produced in North Dakota and Montana to a market hub in Nebraska for delivery to Gulf Coast refineries. The pipeline would consist of 875 miles of 36-inch pipe with the capacity to transport 830,000 barrels per day” (Parfomak, Pirog, Luther and Vann 4). The construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline would strengthen the United States economy, provide energy security and have minimal environmental impact. “The Keystone XL project would create $1.1 trillion in private capital investment at no
Have you ever wondered about the Dakota access pipeline and thought is it good or bad. The Dakota access pipeline is an “Oil pipeline that would run diagonally across Iowa, through 18 counties, from northwest Iowa to southeast Iowa” (Tyler Durden, 2016). Even though I do not support the pipeline, because of damaging reasons, it does help our economy become more desirable. First I do not support this pipeline considering it does not help our environment.
TAPS transports 17% of the United State’s domestic petroleum. If the pipeline were to stop, “A loss of that production would increase prices by at least 10 to 16 percent” (Balan). This is very important, as the majority of the American population is in constant need of these resources. A shift this dramatic in the economy would lead to outrage and possible changes in economic inflation. All in all, the Trans Alaska pipeline has provided for a great number of people and has not failed to let them down.
This article on public testimony is very helpful. This testimony provides details of information that support pipelines as the safest mode of energy transportation. Some of the details include the amount of money spent annually to survey, inspect and maintain pipelines. The testimony explains the role of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on the pipeline industry to operate efficiently which reduces costs to customers. Lastly, this article explains the importance of pipeline infrastructure to the American consumer and provides examples of pipeline operators adapting to winter demands in hard hit areas of the country.
Thankfully, the protesters achieved success and the president vetoed the building of the pipeline. All of these influential people have fought ridiculously hard for their rights; however, they fought a bloodless revolution with wise, nonviolent actions instead of using ruthless violence. Ultimately, there are many past leaders in history that
Business communication is defined as “the sharing of information between people within an enterprise that is performed for the commercial benefit of the organization.” (“BusinessDictionary.com”, 2015). Effective business communication is the hallmark of any successful organization in today’s fast-paced economy. Information is being disseminated on a national level across different demographic lines, and globally to several different cultures. To address how significant it is to possess effective business communication skills, we will be reviewing Martin Zwilling’s, “How Effective Is Your Business Communication Skill?”
Strategic communication is essential for the development of a successful communication plan to reach out to the various targeted stakeholders when disseminating important information to establish and maintain relationship. The word Strategy is defined to be a plan of action used to accomplish a long-term goal (Oxford Dictionary). Strategic communication is responsible for assessing the overall situation and highlighting the issues, possible outcomes and solutions that may aid or affect the organization’s ability to function (Mahoney 2013, 20). Aside from maintaining media relations, strategic communication allows organization to step into their role of a ‘social actor’, where they are able to seek organizational goals and objectives through
