One idea that some schools have is to have class all year round, but there could be some undesirable consequences if they implement it. A positive effect of the plan has to do with a student’s retention of knowledge. In a school that has a three month summer break, students forget some of the knowledge they had learned. In a year-round school, the students would retain more of their knowledge. They will still forget a few things, but it is not nearly as much as their counterparts who have a three month break.
They picked the hill behind Southside Elementary. "It's a nice, easy hill, not too far to walk up, the kids love it, so we try to come every year," said dad Scott Schumacher.” Scott Schumacher tell how there is not a lot of snow days so it is nice when you can relax and take it easy for a day or two. This however, will all change if there is e days. There will be no time to relax or play. Although this may be true, if there is more work on snow days this will help kids over time.
For example “Barber Jerry” in the article “Year Round schooling really works” states that “The most important advantage of the balanced calendar, where students are never out of school for more than one month at a time”, this grants less time for students to lose most memory over the breaks. While students are on their one of their breaks many people believe students may not be able to work or have contact with teachers. Although it may be a little difficult for students to arrange a time to meet with certain teachers it is very much possible. In fact, students are able to do attend what is called “intermission classes”(Wildavsky) this is alike to summer school which is found in the agrarian school calendar. This is focused for the students that are troubled, or students that are looking for
For high schools specifically, attendance is a serious issue. Students would be less reluctant to go to school if either a Friday or Monday was omitted from the school week. Because of this, students might have an improved attitude at school, which could lead to less violence. Going to school one less day per week would also conserve energy and save money for the school. For students whose parent or guardian drives them to and from school, driving to and from school one less time during the week would save them gas.
The freedom from school that comes during summer break or vacation is greatly anticipated by students all over the country. Summer break helps students rest and prepare for the next round of school. Unfortunately, the time to recharge during the summer is disappearing for some students with the rise of year-long schools. While year-long schools have some benefits, they are not advantageous to the student. With hectic schedules, late nights, and the pressure to push themselves academically, it is important that students have summer break to regain their social, physical, and psychological health.
In addition, for the body to relax and repair itself, kids need time off (Blanchard et al.) As a student, summer vacations give him or her a way to relax and take a break off. As well as Blanchard et al. reports, by taking time off can help kids’ mental skills for when they get back into school. Aside from stress, taking a break or vacation can help with a kid’s physical health.
There is often a great deal of stress on students because they have been away from school for the whole summer. More frequent miniscule breaks would help the students so they didn’t get as burned out. They are able to have breaks from school and recharge. Conservatively affecting around 10% of children and
I think there should be four day school weeks because students most likely want more free time out of school. The school days will end at 4:00 or maybe 4:30 pm because regular school days wouldn’t be enough learning time. This way we could have longer class periods and it’ll help because you’ll get the help you need and work will be handed in on time. Every student has missing work, longer school days help you get some of it all in and grades will be up. Plus, maybe students could do a little work on the day that they won’t have school.
I personally love to take naps with my free time, but I know that if I take too long of naps or nap too frequently then I will not be getting things done that need to be done. In college you think you are caught up, but honestly you never are. If you think you have nothing to do, think again. You could be looking over and reviewing notes for your midterm or final that you will have at the end of the term. Also, never wait until last minute to do an assignment just because it’s not due until Friday and it’s only Monday.
Every year I look back and think about if my life would be easier or not. My life would definitely be less stressful but it wouldn’t be any fun to just sit around after school. I played for that many years and it just feels natural to keep being on that court and playing to the best of their ability.
The only reason people wouldn’t agree would be because they want to spend time with their children, but they will still be able to because year round schooling gives short bursts of breaks about two weeks every other month(Towler). Finally, Year-Round Schooling would be a great idea to interpret and merge into our school . so that we can not just learn more but not be stressed out and forget what we learned the previous year. What they don’t know is that the People around kids need them to go to school all the time not just for education but, also so they may go to work and feed their families. This method of teaching is something that I have experienced when I was a child and I enjoyed learning while taking one week break about every
Breaks like these give student and teachers much needed time to blow off the anger built up inside of them. The environment of schools with year-round schedules is much better because of it since students don’t have that anger built up inside of them and teachers are not frustrated at the students as much, “ Teachers who work for year-long schools say that it gives them a break when they are on the verge of a meltdown.” (Long). It also lowers the amount of students who get in trouble at school, "I haven 't had one student sent to the office all week. And I know why. We 've just had two weeks off, everyone is refreshed, remotivated and their fire has been rekindled."
Why don’t middle schoolers have a “recess” or free period? Honestly I don’t know. But in my opinion, all grades should have some type of free period like recess. This could help make friends, let the teachers have a break, and give us extra time for missing work or homework. All in all, it is a good thing for us, and even high school.
In high school I could get away with not watching as much film on a opponent. In college if you would do that, eventually you’re going to get exposed. Another big one was how important it was to watch your practice film. The coaching staff at Hamline really stressed getting better at one thing everyday. The guys that took them seriously where the ones that ended up playing at the end of the year, and they where also the most improved.
This helps us retain what we learned from school instead of losing it over 3 months of summer break. The 3 months of summer break requires your brain to focus on activities like basketball, video games, or swimming. 3 months of focusing can alter your brain and make you lose some of that information you learned over the school year. Not using that information we learned from school will make us forget some of it, if not used for a while. "BRAIN DRAIN: Students Lose Education during Summer Break."
