When we are forgotten, we cease to exist. Throughout the centuries the legends of King Arthur are told both as fable and non-fiction. Though every story has the same concept, each story differs in some way. Most characters reappear in each legend, but may have a different role in the story. Characters such as Guinevere, Merlin, Lancelot, and Arthur's knights show up in every story. In Merlin, Merlin is a powerful wizard that takes Arthur to raise until he can take the throne. On the other hand, in the movie King Arthur shows a more classic side of the story where there is no magic and Arthur was raised by his parents. In both movies Arthur holds the same moral mindset. His knights and he all sit at a round table because Arthur believes that no man is greater than the other. Also, in both movies Arthur has a sword named Excalibur, but he receives the sword in different ways. In Merlin, he gets Excalibur for being a good man and he pulls it out of the stone. In King Arthur he pulls the sword from the grave of his father in effort to save his mother from an attack by the Woads. Also, in both movies Arthur has the same parents, Uther and Lady Igraine. However, he has different roles with his parents. In Merlin, when Arthur is born he is given to Merlin to be raised as a good man. In King Arthur, his parents died when he is young. In addition, Arthur marries Guinevere in both King Arthur and Merlin. In the movie, Merlin when Arthur becomes king he has an arranged marriage with Guinevere. In King Arthur, when Arthur goes on a quest to save a very important Roman family he rescued Guinevere, along with others, from being mistreated and beaten to death by the Bishop’s people. After the war at the wall he married Guinevere and became king. Furthermore, the way he becomes king contrast. In Merlin, Arthur is born into royalty. Arthur is the first to accomplish this task and at first is doubted by some high ranking knights. Arthur puts the sword back, does it again, further proving his place as king and sets out with a new goal to restore the glory of England. Not long after, Arthur meets his mentor figure, a wizard named Merlin. Subsequently, Merlin teaches Arthur how to remain good-hearted as well as handling the supernatural elements of their world. Similarly, Arthur gathers the knights of the round table, a group of knights that are purely good and heroic, to help build a better kingdom as well as assist Arthur in his quests.
In the Once and Future King written by TH. White, White manifests the work’s whole in a single moment by giving Arthur several epiphanies throughout his life. He shows how Arthur develops gradually in a realistically complex way and having him face challenging situations, but also manifests the fact he still has flaws even as a simple person. Arthur’s epiphany ultimately developed him into a morally correct and pacifistic person.
Out of all the knights around he was the only one that had the spirit to play the beheading game with the green knight. At first King Arthur took the challenge but being the loyal person he was he felt it was his duty to challenge the green knight instead of King Arthur. As stated in the story he said "the weakest, the most wanting in wisdom... And my life, if lost, would be least missed, truly". The quote only shows that what he is saying is not true and that he will be might for his chivalry.

In the 1981 movie Excalibur directed by John Boorman Arthur 's teenage life is explained and the events that lead Arthur to become king. The movie is based on violence, peppered with sex and it portrays the manner of how Arthur was taken away from his mother without her consent. The idea of a farm boy becoming the true king was so repulsive to some nobles that they refused to acknowledge that Arthur was successful in pulling out a sword, forcing him remove the sword multiple times, until the common people demanded that Arthur has proven his worth and that he should be crowned king. King Arthur is one of the best kings that has ruled over Britain, throughout all of history. Arthur ruled with honor, loyalty, and chivalry, which made him a great king. Many lessons that he learned on his journeys helped him to become the person that he is. Arthur’s journey becoming king can be seen in the novel The Sword in the Stone by T.H. White, and is very similar to Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey.

The legend was that he was cutting papers for his scrapbook and he stabbed his father in the leg and returned to cutting the paper like nothing happened.
