The 2005 Randolph Caldecott Medal was awarded to Kitten’s First Full Moon by written and illustrated by Kevin Henkes. Kitten’s First Full Moon is a tale about a kitten who is confused about what the moon is. Through the use of color pencils and expressionism, Kevin Henkes created simple images that are appealing to children. Kitten’s First Full Moon is a popular and award-wining text because of its simplicity used by Kevin Henkes. As mentioned earlier, Kitten’s First Full Moon was drawn using color pencils. However, only three colors were used throughout the text: white, black, and grey.
