As a three year letterwinner and playing the shortstop position, I have faced many challenges. I have played softball with my older sister for many years and June 7, 2013 was one of the most heartbreaking days of my life. My sister Ashlynn was the starting shortstop player for our team. She was a great player with a positive attitude and always gave her best effort. Ashlynn was a role model to me and to other younger players on and off the field.
Softball has always been very important to me family. My mom played in college and both of my parents played when I was growing up. My sister and I both started around the age of twelve and played all throughout high school. I decided to go a step further like my mom and play in college. I was so excited to meet all kinds of new people and play the game we all love, but I never thought it would be as challenging as it has been for me this year.
I have been to Camp Marist for 6 years. 1 year in La Petite, 2 years in Sunset, 1 year in Scot’s Lodge and 2 years in Sailor’s Cottage. I have looked up to all of the Prefects and Staff in each of those cabins, and I have known that I have wanted to be like them one day ever since Sunset when I met my prefect Megan Joyce Fisher. She was always so happy and enthusiastic, and spread her joy to all of her little sunset girls

These girls were between the ages 7-9 so some of them had a short attention span but it was still great. My neighbor was the head coach of these little players, and she sometimes could not attend some of the games. So she had asked me if I could go and help with her assistant coach. I, of course, said yes and was very excited to come out and help with whatever I could. I came to the game and helped the players with the batting order, and warmups.
Those two hours with the other girls make softball so much more enjoyable because they love the game as much as I do and it is truly amazing how sports brings people together. People think sports are just sports, but in reality to athletes it’s an escape from life, it’s our second family, and most important we feel like we belong there. Sports make you feel like your apart of something bigger than a team. Softball has been my second family and I have made so many amazing friendships that might last for the rest of life and even if they don’t, I will never forget all my friends or the memories that I have playing ball with
Sometimes I get to be in other pageants with my friends. And when my friends win, then I’m really happy for them.” Said 7 year-old Allie Richardson (Michael Inbar,2009). Have you ever felt so passionate about a game you would do anything you could to play with the best against the best? The summer between my junior and senior year of high school was a summer to remember. As a softball player some of the best games to play in are the sparkler, the World Series, and All Star games. I had the awesome opportunity to play in one of these all star games. These games are such a great opportunity for any girl that wants to go somewhere with their softball career.
