A famous adage says “Real Knowledge, like everything else of value, is not to be obtained easily. It must be worked for, planned for, studied for, thought for, and more that all, must be prayed for”. (Thomas Arnold). Sometimes, people outshine in life because they are able to distinguish between the knowledge they can truly value and knowledge which they do not have to value. It is not always evident to know if knowledge has been produced with difficulty or not. In my opinion, a person can be pointed to have produced knowledge with difficulty if he/she has dedicated huge efforts, be it physically or mentally for its production. While in my work, I will consider value to be “the importance or worth of something for someone” (Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, third edition), I do not agree completely with this statement. Our faith can be responsible in guiding us to distinguish between knowledge we have to value and knowledge we do not have to value. This can be seen in the religious knowledge system. For instance, when I was still a kid, my mother always punished me when I told a lie or took something which does not belong to me. She equally reminded that as a Christian, I do not have the right to lie because it is condemned by God. With this knowledge inculcated in me, as I was growing up, each time I told a lie to someone knowingly, I felt guilty and bad and this has pushed me to value to a great extent the knowledge that I do not have to lie, steal and deceive my neighbours because I have a complete trust in God (faith).
