1.1 Company Profile

KPMG is one of the world’s largest companies that provide professional services besides Deloitte, EY and PwC. It is a Swiss entity that registers as co-operative in Canton of Zug, one of the cantons in Switzerland. The co-operative provides support services only to its member firm around the world as the member firms provide services to the client. Meanwhile, headquarter of KPMG is located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The entity is a result from the merging of a few large professional firms and is named after the 4 main founder of firm respectively:
K – Piet Klijnveld
P – William Barclay Peat
M – James Marwick
G – Dr. Reinhard Goerdeler
KPMG Malaysia is one the member firms under KPMG co-operative which established in this country since 1928. The firm provides 3 main professional services which are Advisory, Audit and Tax. In Audit services, there are 4 departments namely Audit K, P, M and G respectively. They are specialized in different industries and they carry out all 4 types of services in their department. Meanwhile in Advisory services, there are 3 main departments namely Management Consulting, Risk Consulting and Deal Advisory which have different service lines under their respective area of specialization. Lastly, Tax services provide 7 main types of services in Malaysia. 1.3 Task Performed During Internship
My internship period started from 2 February 2015 to 26 July 2015. During the six month period, I was assigned to the Strategy and Operation Services department under Advisory in KPMG Malaysia as shown by the red box in Figure
