KPMG is one of the world’s largest companies that provide professional services besides Deloitte, EY and PwC. It is a Swiss entity that registers as co-operative in Canton of Zug, one of the cantons in Switzerland. The co-operative provides support services only to its member firm around the world as the member firms provide services to the client. Meanwhile, headquarter of KPMG is located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The entity is a result from the merging of a few large professional firms and is named after the 4 main founder of firm respectively:

P – William Barclay Peat
M – James Marwick
G – Dr. Reinhard Goerdeler
KPMG Malaysia is one the member firms under KPMG co-operative which established in this country since 1928. The firm provides 3 main professional services which are Advisory, Audit and Tax. In Audit services, there are 4 departments namely Audit K, P, M and G respectively. They are specialized in different industries and they carry out all 4 types of services in their department. Meanwhile in Advisory services, there are 3 main departments namely Management Consulting, Risk Consulting and Deal Advisory which have different service lines under their respective area of specialization. Lastly, Tax services provide 7 main types of services in Malaysia. 1.3 Task Performed During Internship

The audit firm of Barings, Deloitte & Touche failing to spot the activities of Nick Leeson when performed audit jobs. Deloitte & Touche, which audited the accounts of Barings Futures Singapore, fail to detect "window dressing" in the accounts and signs of unauthorised trading. Deloitte & Touche have not investigated further and revealed Leeson 's unauthorised trading even though BFS 's balance sheet showed the company had deposited more margins with the Singapore futures exchange than it had received from its customers as it was an indication of unauthorised trading. Although the audit team have it own responsibility to prevent the collapse of Barings but most of the fault for Barings ' collapse lay with the bank itself. 1.

2.0 SITUATION ANALYSIS Below are Malaysian banking industry’s external environment assessment using Porter’s 5 Forces Analysis. For the purpose of this assessment, 3 top-in-the-league existing domestic banking groups in terms of asset size have been chosen i.e. Maybank, CIMB, and PublicBank. All 8 domestic banking groups have operations in all the 3 segments of banking businesses namely Commercial, Islamic, and Investment bank. Upon analyzing and assessing their immediate surroundings, the banking groups recognize the following important factors that would impact on their competitiveness. THREAT OF RIVALRY AMONG EXISTING BANKS • Too many players in the industry; Each banking group has to contend with 7 other domestic banking groups and 30 other banking intermediaries both local and foreign, comprising 19 Commercial, 8 Islamic, and 3 Investment banks.

As stated in Principle 1, The Board of Directors directs the Group’s risk assessment, strategic planning, succession planning and financial and operational management to ensure that obligations to shareholders and other stakeholders are understood and met. The board of directors has a collective responsibility for the management of the group to make sure the group is on the way to approach to their objectives while the non-Executive Directors are responsible for bringing independent judgment and scrutiny to decisions taken by the Board of Directors and providing objective challenges to management. Besides, the board of directors also function as formalising and adopting a set of Code of Ethics through the Code of Conduct as Recommendation 1.3 as stated in the Malaysian Code on Corporate Governance 2012 to make sure its compliance, establishing an appropriate set of corporate disclosure policies and procedures and ensuring a whistleblowing mechanism is in place. Introduction Tesco Stores (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd owns and operates hypermarkets in Malaysia. It offers fresh produce, groceries, household items, and apparel and its own food and non-food products. The company was incorporated on 29thNovember 2001, as a strategic alliance between Tesco PLC UK and local conglomerate, Sime Darby Berhad of which the latter holds 30% of the total shares. Tesco opened its first store in Malaysia in February 2002 with the opening of its first hypermarket in Puchong, Selangor. Tesco Malaysia currently operates 49 Tesco and Tesco Extra stores nationwide.
