Ku Klux Klan Analysis

What the kkk was doing was main reason why the north got distracted from the reconstruction and how the south had the biggest part in killing the reconstruction. During the efforts of the reconstruction a lot of the south was trying to reject them and it was working. There were mainly two southern groups: the scalawags who supported the reconstruction and the Ku Klux Klan who really hated the idea of the reconstruction and equal rights. (Hook Exercise) The KKK was basically a terrorist group who when around killing congressmen who were for the reconstruction and equal rights. “He was foully murdered by the Ku Klux in the Grand Jury room of the court House.”(Doc A). The KKK also had first class men in their group People like Lawyers, Doctors, and government officials. “ Some are first class men in our town” (Doc B). The North was distracted from the reconstruction by corrupt Officials in grants Administration. Those members of the KKK that were lawyers and stuff were the corruption in grants administration. The south had a lot to do with killing the reconstruction. All but three of the southern states refused help from the reconstruction (Background 505). So the south really did not like the reconstruction and hated the idea of having african americans as equals.

The KKK tried to silence a former slave who ended up becoming a Georgia State Legislature to drain the support of Reconstruction policies and to attack the empowerment of the African-American community he represented.

Resistance to Reconstruction was incredibly aggressive and violent since Southerners were extremely appalled by the radical social transformations that were resulting from Reconstruction, so those Southerners terrorized and killed the Republicans and the black people responsible for the changes. Black people were supposedly guaranteed equality before the law by the 14th amendment, however, their rights were not always upheld. Southerners would kill black people over minor actions, like not yielding to whites on sidewalks or attempting to buy land. During the Reconstruction period, the North and the South had very different ideas on how to handle all of the new problems in America regarding the freed slaves. Though the North and the South had contradictory ideas that ranged from the basic needs of the freed slaves to establishing new state governments, the Reconstruction period strived to unify the North and the South. In the Reconstruction period, freedom was a new idea for many African Americans and they aimed to establish all of their new rights, even if they were unsure of their lives after the Civil War.

While the Ku Klux Klan of the 1860s and of the 1920s had certain similarities and differences, these groups represent a particular American virtue: intolerance. The often conduct mass mailings, leafleting and the use of the internet to either gain members or spread hate. In the recent years the KKK was more violent than they ae now. The Ku Klux Klan often took violent means to express their dissatisfaction, resulting in numerous killings, lynching, and hate crimes against African-Americans. The Ku Klux Klan or KKK has created centuries of fear.They originated in Pulaski, Tennessee. The famous hate group was out to re establish white supremacy. The KKK has influenced local governments and people in power. It has also had an impact on American people and specifically black minorities. Members of the cult have promoted the agenda since 1865. In 1867, the Radical reconstruction gave former slaves a voice in government. During this era, formers slaves gained a platform in the government, with some blacks as Congressmen. However, not everyone supported the idea of Reconstruction. Less than a decade after the Reconstruction period, a small group composed of democratic ex-confederate veterans, white farmers and white southerners sympathetic to white supremacy joined forces together to form the Ku Klux Klan. After the Civil War, a group called the Ku Klux Klan, better known today as the KKK, was formed. This group made it almost impossible for new African American citizens to exercise their rights. This group used physical assault and murder to express their opinion about African Americans at that time. In Document B, an image is shown of a member of the KKK teaming up with a member of the White League. Below the two, a small family of slaves huddles together in fear. Because the image is titled “Worse Than Slavery”, the conclusion that the KKK treated freed slaves cruelly and they showed no mercy towards them. Jane Dailey’s “Sex, Segregation, and the Scared after Brown”, published in The Journal of American History, couples religion, sex, and the struggles of segregation during the civil rights movement.
