“Profiles In courage” is a book written by the then senator, John F. Kennedy where he highlights American politicians who went against the flow and against their own party to do what they thought was right. Their actions were actions of political courage. While it is common for politicians to go with the wind in a bid to get reelected, some have shown the spirit of true service, at the expense of political expediency. One such individual would be Alabama’s governor Bob Riley who was elected on a Republican ticket in 2002. During his campaigns, he aimed at appealing to the upper and middle-class of society.
As legend goes, every Joint Task Force Guantanamo Trooper adapts to one of four specific archetypes by the end of their time at U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Regardless of your naughty decisions supposedly every JTF Trooper will fall into one of the four categories before their demobilization back home: a hunk, chunk, drunk or monk. Although my thought is pure and simple, why not become a collaboration of all of the above?

In the film, Officer Ryan molests Christine Thayer and later one in the film gambles on his life to save Christine during a tragic burning car accident. The irony in this scene provides a sense of awkwardness (fate changes/turning tables). What had really shocked me was when he had the perfect opportunity to leave Christine in the upside down burning car and die. However, instead he does the exact opposite of what we’d think, he risks his own life and saves her. Another character that took me by surprise was the Iranian man (Shaun Toub) who is an immigrant trying to fit in.
