Abstract- : Little literature is available on the management engineering. This research proposal point to the deficiency in engineering professionals caused by lack of management skills and attributes. The research proposal illustrates effects of missing management skills and knowledge in engineers. It proposes that current graduate engineers do not understand the role and importance of management skills in their profession. It also proposes that the skills requirement graduate engineers have change of time and new approach that incorporates management principles needs to be adopted. The arts and skills of management is a core requirement for the field of engineering. Previously management was not a major consideration in engineering profession. However, recent development in the industry and profession have management skills a necessity. Management skills are shaking the feature of new graduate engineers. Research hypothesis:
The following are two major hypotheses of this research proposal. H1: Current graduate engineers do not understand the role and importance of management skills in their profession. H2: The required attributes and skills of engineers have changed and shifted towards management. Literature Review: Several visions of empirical evidences as well as large bodies of scholary literature indicates that management skills are still lacking in engineering courses despite their significant roles in the profession. Knott and Miller present a number of dysfunctions that are present within bureaucracies. A few types of dysfunction are goal displacement, trained incapacity and dual systems of authority (Knott & Miller, 1987, p. 110-1). According to Knott and Miller, goal displacement occurs when a rigidity cycle starts to produce greater and greater emphasis is put on the rules, rather than the actual purpose of the organization as a whole (Knott & Miller, 1987, p. 110). In consequence, goal displacement means that employees replace a concern for organizational rules and procedures in the place of organizational goals.
