Lady Macbeth's Ambition And Evil

Ambition: Shakespeare portrays the undeniable power of ambition throughout “Macbeth”. Ambition is a corrupting and unrelenting force in which Lady Macbeth and Macbeth fall victim to. Both Lady Macbeth and Macbeth show a desire for power. However, Lady Macbeth shows more ambition in getting immediate power. Lady Macbeth takes on a masculine persona in order to commence her plans.

Due to ambition most of humanities’ greatest triumphs would not be possible, but it is also important to understand that uncontrolled ambition is the cause of humanities’ ultimate downfall. Throughout Shakespeare’s Macbeth the most crucial theme is ambition. This is shown all through the play by the Weird Sister’s prophecy, Lady Macbeth’s desires, and the consequences of uncontrolled ambition. Ambition is a critical theme in Macbeth it is illustrated by the weird sister’s prophecies that leads to the development of ambition for Macbeth.

The play of “Macbeth” is one of William Shakespeare’s most famous tragedies. It is loosely based on the real King Macbeth of Scotland and takes place in the early 17th century. The play itself relies on ambition as it significantly affects characters such as Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, and Macduff who will do anything to quench their thirst for ambition. Macbeth, the once noble and respected member of the hierarchy, is corrupted by the fates “weird sisters” who tinker away at Macbeth to pursue his ambitions.

Ambition and violence are a recurring theme throughout the entirety of the play. Violence is shown throughout through various things. This likely because of the time period that Macbeth is set in where being a warrior made you honored by many people. In the story Macbeth is a warrior revered throughout Scotland. Even though he has a reputation like his Macbeth has a major flaw which ultimately leads to his downfall at the end of the play.

By studying Macbeth I have learned that ambition and greed can lead to one's downfall. Macbeth goes out of his way and works extremely hard to kill Duncan and obtain the throne from him. Throughout the play, Macbeth keeps his ambition constant by having Banquo and Fleance killed as they starts suspecting Macbeth killed Duncan. (III.2.p.39). "There's comfort yet; they are assailable; there shall be done A deed of dreadful note"

Ambition is defined as a strong desire to do or to achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work. It can cause someone to lose sight of what is morally right, and make rash decisions without thinking of the repercussions. However, what is ambition without determination to drive it forward? In Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, the character Lady Macbeth is filled with a passion for power, and will do whatever it takes to get it. In a society where women have little status, she is seen as fiendishly cruel, when actually she is just trying to get to the top of the social ladder with little help from others.

Macbeth Macbeth is the story of a couple who are overcome by ambition and greed. Macbeth lets his wife’s strong desire for power get the best of him, and the progression of his emotions throughout the play are very interesting to observe. Lady Macbeth is a very big influence on Macbeth’s actions and is arguably the reason that they both ended up dying sooner than they could have. Lady Macbeth drove Macbeth into a very dark and anxiety filled state of mind, and the progression of his unbecoming is very prominent towards the end of the story. Throughout the story, a new side of Macbeth is revealed through his actions and emotions as he undergoes the anxiety of being put under pressure not only by his wife, but himself.

Ambition is a strong force of human nature, which can turn people evil if it takes control of them. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are perfect examples of these type of people. In Macbeth, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are both thirsty for power which leads them to their ultimate demise. People might expect that Macbeth and Lady Macbeth have a mundane husband and wife relationship, but instead they are in a divergent relationship, which causes them to influence each other in a way that lead to their downfall. The ambition that Macbeth and Lady macbeth have for power was portrayed by their motives, morals, goals, relationships, consciousness and personalities throughout the play.

Lady Macbeth is not an evil person who incited Macbeth to undergo the spiral of demise that he did. To her, it was an act of devotion toward her husband whilst making use of her independence, ambition, and moral compass to achieve Macbeth’s goal of becoming a king. The outward appearance and expression of Lady Macbeth seem hostile and dangerous, but there was a reason for her to behave in such manner. In order to get what she wanted, the short-lived Queen of Scotland faces the ultimate obstacle: herself.
