I attended school at Lafayette High School in Lafayette, Louisiana. It has more students than any high school in Louisiana with about 2500 students enrolled. Lafayette High is also home to the gifted program of the parish as well as a health academy which offers students the opportunity to familiarize themselves with various aspects of the medical field and provides them with experience in hospitals. Finally, the school offers a myriad of extracurriculars for students to participate in outside of school hours. I am proud to say that I was a part of the gifted program at Lafayette High and had the opportunity to study under some great teachers. Most of my favorite teachers shared very similar qualities. They were very personal in their teaching, …show more content…
Besides being an opportunity to better myself musically, it taught me a lot of lessons and skills that I still use to this day. Most importantly, I learned how to set and achieve personal goals. Oftentimes I would be presented with a goal and it was up to me to practice and prepare on my own with little to no guidance from my teachers. This was probably the most valuable lesson I learned from band. I tend to see myself as a generally level-headed individual with a good work ethic. But overall, I think my biggest weakness is being social in a casual environment. I hope that throughout my studies I can overcome this personal barrier. As far as my future goes, I’d like to earn a masters degree in gifted education at some point in the future and teach English as a second language in Asia for a period of time. Throughout my schooling, I have been enrolled in both gifted and regular courses. I think this is one of the things that sets me apart from my colleagues. I know what its like to be in both classroom scenarios and have personally observed different teachers react to both types of students and got to see firsthand which methods were the most successful. This, I feel, is one of the more important aspects that set me apart from my
("A Quote) When I sit back and think of all the ways band has changed my life for the better, I realize it was not just the music, but also those who are in the band. Wirt County Tiger Marching Band was literally my go to for the longest time, especially after my parents split up, the only people I wanted to talk to were those in band. I started band when I was in the fifth grade and I played a clarinet for about two weeks and realized that I had made the biggest error thinkable. After two weeks passed I then tried out the trumpet and
Many people dream of performing on stage, being a part of brilliant performances and productions. I, on the other hand, dream of working behind the scenes, and of being a part of the team that makes these performances and productions possible. Music and the arts are my passion, and I plan to work in the management, promotion and advocacy of arts organizations both nationally and internationally. Pursuing an M.A./M.B.A. dual degree in Arts Administration at the University of Cincinnati is the next step for me to achieve my life goals.
The education that I intend to take after graduating high school is one that will help me reach my ultmost full potential both academically and socially. The vast amount of research gone into trying to find what college I want to attend has been quite the stressful process. Does this college have a good undergraduate program? Is it in the middle of nowhere? Am I able to perform academically well and still have a college experience here?
Joining band had an immense and almost immediate impact on my life. Before being in band I had never had a talent that I felt completely confident in. I enjoyed practicing and spent many hours trying to improve my musical ability. In
The band program taught me how to push through the difficulties and struggles that would allow me to become a better performer in the end, and taught me the importance of respect and courtesy, whether it be for volunteers with the band, my bandmates, other bands, and so on, and how far simple manners can go. Most importantly, though, this band taught me what it was like to be dedicated and passionate about something. In the past two years, I have developed a love for playing music that has given me more joy in life than anything else in the last four years, and due to that caused me to learn a new instrument, get more involved with our music program, created friendships and relationships that will last, allowed me to become a more rounded person, that is better equipped to handle my future. I have grown greatly in the last few years, and this is all due to the band program, which I will never be able to repay for all it has done for
My constant urge to learn, explore and be a part of the fast growing world by contributing to its development has been instrumental in kindling interest in me for pursuing doctoral study at Tulane University (PhD in Chemistry). I am a graduate student having a MS in Pharmacology and Toxicology (Wright State University, OH) with a 3.3 GPA. I have experience in research, analysis, proofreading, writing skills, and can quickly adapt to meet goals in any environment. I would like to present my past performances as my credentials for success in future endeavors. My academic performance was good, which acted as a booster and made me look at future with full of confidence and excitement.
Coming from a different culture but still embracing the Christian values that Loma Linda University emphasizes, I believe that my unique background and personal experiences distinguish my application from others. Growing up in Egypt, where the gap between social classes is significant, my parents always stressed the need to prioritize service into my life encouraging me to dedicate time in volunteering and helping others. As a result, my experience has grown from volunteering to serve as a camp leader for orphans in the summer to participating in international dental service trips. These involvements would allow me to use my skills in organizing missions trips at Loma Linda. Being a Coptic Orthodox Christian enables me to add diversity to the
Ever since grade school, I was passionate about working in the field of medicine, and science. I enjoyed anatomy, medical spelling and terminology, and reading about the healthcare industry. Because of my passion for healthcare, I decided to to attend Health Sciences High. There, I was given the best opportunities, such as, medical internships and college health courses. My plans and goals had turned me into a mature young adult.
One of the teachers that has had the most impact on me was Mrs. Stevenson. Mrs. Stevenson was an ESL teacher in high school where I attended. She was one strongest and kindest person I have ever met. She willing to help her students to achieve their goals, and she believed in every one of the students, although most of them did not believe in themselves.
Hey what is up graduates of 2022. I'm surprised you made it this far, no I'm just kidding but you are going to be in highschool and that is kinda scary. I have learned a lot from my past and I´ve made some mistakes in the previous grades but I have learned from them and I think we all have. We also had some really good days and times in middle school.
Middle school is a challenging time in the life of any individual, but this was especially so for me as I moved to the United States from India at the age of twelve. Although it was difficult at first adjusting to not only a new education system, but also an entirely new culture, this experience has taught me to integrate new information in a way that enables me to adapt and succeed when faced with challenges. Furthermore, I belong to a region in India that was colonized by the Portuguese and thus, I am Roman Catholic by religion and Indian by nationality. Hence, diversity has been a constant theme in my life, which was further enhanced by my exposure to people of various nationalities, races, religions, etc.
As a future teacher looking toward a time when I will be responsible for a classroom of my own, the prospects are terrifying. Students arrive in the classroom with various strengths and weaknesses with the expectation that I can and will teach them the given curriculum. Admittedly, some students will be easier to connect with and teach than others. This is not the fault of the students, but rather the fault of the teacher. However, this is not to say that the teacher should be held entirely responsible for the challenges that he/she may face and fail; but the teacher can surely be held responsible for coming to an expected challenge and failing due to lack of preparation or effort.
In my childhood, I was actually more interested in physics than in biology or chemistry. Probably, because it was Stephen Hawking’s book “A Short History of Time” about theoretical physics that made me decide to pursue my career in science. My interest turned to biochemistry when I watched a documentary about cancer and people dying from it, and when I saw that program, it made me think I want to do something in the future that stops that from happening. Of course, it seemed unrealistic, but I thought that one day somebody will solve this problem and if every scientist will do at least one research in this field this day will come much sooner. Nevertheless, I was good in all subjects I began learning biology and chemistry especially hard.
I have learned how to read musical pieces, how to play different piano-like instruments, and how to better organize my thoughts and critical thinking. I am a sophomore in high school and have been for a while now. That makes the experience of me being in band a time period of one to two years. Band has changed me for the better, whether it be me learning how to navigate myself through life or music, it has been there for me for a long time now. Without band and music, I do not know who I would be.
Schooling at the primary level was not a walk in the park: I found studies challenging; did not do well in mathematics even though I was a bright student. That is when some of my friends joined Abacus classes; spoke about the fun they had with numbers. Recognizing that could be the way out, I asked my mother if I too could join; started classes the following weekend. At Abacus classes numbers spoke to me; the exercises sharpened my memorizing and analytical skills. I noticed the difference, which intrigued me.
