krista THE CURRENT STATUS OF LAND RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENT AND THEIR EFFECTS ON PHILIPPINES ECONOMY The Philippines is located at the Southeast of Asia. Its boundaries are formed by three large bodies of water: on the west and north by the South China Sea, on the east by the Pacific Ocean; and on the South by the Celebes Sea and the coastal waters of Borneo. It encompasses more than 7000 islands and islets that are divided into three major groups: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. With its total land area of approximately 300 000 square kilometers which is classified as forestland that is half of the total land area, 47% as alienable and disposable lands, and the remaining 3% as unclassified forestlands (Department of Environment and Natural Resources n.d.). Luzon and Mindanao occupy about 35 and 32 percent of total land area, respectively. The Philippines is primarily considered as an agricultural country despite the building of an industrialized economy in some urban areas. Though most citizens still live in rural areas and support …show more content…
The major forces and constraints that directly affect the degradation of agriculture and forestry are emphasized. According to (I. Coxhead, S. Jayasuriya, 2002) The Philippine environment and natural resource sector is generally classified as comprising five major interlinked, and sometimes overlapping, ecosystems: (1) the forest and uplands ecosystem; (2) the agricultural/cropland ecosystem; (3) the freshwater ecosystem; (4) the coastal and marine ecosystem; and (5) the urban ecosystem. According to (F. S Morales n.d.) the Philippines is richest in plant and animal species worldwide, 5th in mineralized country in the world, and has rich water resources due to its geographic location. However each of these ecosystems faces problems that cause environmental degradation, often severe, both from the depletion land resources stocks and of production of
of land irrigated (2012). Venezuela uses 24.5% of land for agriculture. They use 52.1% of land for forests as well. Venezuela has 30,000 square km. of water.
1) Define the terms meta analysis and meta synthesis. Why did we use meta synthesis in the research design? Meta synthesis is a deliberate and intelligent way to deal with breaking down information over subjective investigations. It is a procedure that empowers analysts to recognize a particular research question and after that scan for, select, assess, compress, and join subjective confirmation to address the explored question.
After the Civil War the South’s economy and people were left in devastation, especially considering that “some 650,000 men died in the war, including 260,000 Confederates -- over one-fifths of the South’s adult white male population” ("America 's Reconstruction: People and Politics After the Civil War"). The surviving white men expected to go back to their land after the war, and many finding that their land had been confiscated. As stated in the article by M. O 'Malley & F. L. Carr., "The Sea Islands: An Experiment in Land Redistribution," after Sherman’s famous March to the Sea, he “declared that the Sea Islands on the coast of South Carolina and Georgia would be reserved for Freedman.” White plantation owners were infuriated by this act, claiming that it endowed a sense of entitlement to the freedman, fostering more demands from slaves such as the right to education and schools (O’Malley).
Deciding the Annexation of the Philippines Assessment: On Google Docs you need to write a three paragraph essay arguing whether or not the United States should or should not annex the Philippines. You need to use 2 pieces of evidence from the documents per paragraph. Americans might have thought that all war and chaos would have ended and stayed in the year of 1898, when we (America) won over the Spanish, in the Spanish-American war. Although, we were partially right with allowing us to have some sort of peace, we did not figure that we may have to have annex a whole different country, taking away from our “peace”.
Seventy percent of animals on earth live in forest so their lives and species are being endangered due to deforestation and the loss of trees increases carbon dioxide in the air. Although deforestation is a problem it is shown in document C that the Brazilian government is trying to fix their mistakes. In 1980, 80% of the deforested land was used for agricultural services (cattle ranching, logging, and large and small scale agriculture Doc C.) In ten more years only 60% of the land was used for agricultural services, so this shows the deforestation problem is working on getting
Although deforestation is a popular way of means, the effects of it are long lasting. Deforestation leads to issues in South America such as mudslides, loss of virgin forests, loss of habitats, and the loss of homelands. Without trees to secure fertile soil, erosion occurs and sweeps the land turning it into rivers. It is estimated that one third of the world’s farmable land has
Introduction: Description: Deforestation is defined as the permanent destruction of forests in order to make land available for other uses. According to the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) 18 million acres of forest are lost each year. This equals to approximately 36 football fields of forest being cleared each minute. Though deforestation occurs all over the world, it’s the tropical forests which are being particularly targeted. Due to this countries such as Indonesia, Brazil, the Democratic republic of Congo and Thailand have a very
Deforestation results in the loss of biodiversity Deforestation is having its most devastating effect on biodiversity in tropical rainforests. The destruction of millions of hectares of forests by human activities means: • The removal of the bases of numerous food webs • The loss of habitats for many species of flora and
During the period of deforestation, loggers and cultivators clear forest lands and convert them into agricultural lands to meet the increasing demand for food and raw materials of the economically growing nation. Then, agricultural expansion eventually stops. There are two forms of forest recovery after agricultural expansion. One is referred to as the “economic development path” and the other is the “forest scarcity path” (Rudel et al, 2005). The “economic development path” take place when agricultural expansion stops and farm workers look for higher paying non-farm jobs.
The growing population in today’s world is a great burden to our natural resources. With more people roaming the world, we tend to use more and more resources that are hard to replenish. A great example is the asparagus growing country of Peru. They are the largest manufacture of asparagus and supplies a lot of the first world countries. There are benefits to Peruvians with the demand of the product that they produce.

This will be achieved with reference to case studies in which the short-sighted, selfish nature of humanity has caused potentially irreversible damage to the Earth’s delicate ecosystems. Firstly, attention will be drawn to the problem of overexploiting fishing stocks with particular reference to Pandan Bay in the Philippines and the power of creating
The regions are disproportionately in the tropics, giving an indication that these ecosystems are particularly vulnerable to future
Rice Cultivation in the Philippines Emilyn C. Bao BSED-SS1, CE20 Prof. Sircio C. Chan, Capitol University 8 March, 2017 The purpose of this research is to know about the cultivation of rice in the Philippines from 1565 to 1898. The rice had many purpose in the last decades. The ancient civilization had their ways of making rice delicacies, and also our ancestor’s fun of drinking wines made of rice.
Introduction By the year 2025, the Philippines is believed to be brought to a water crisis if no new sources of water are developed or found to meet the growing demand of the citizens. (Sapnu, R., Balabo, D., & Cervantes, D., 2007) "There is a Japan International Cooperation Agency study that says that if we will not conserve water, there may be some problems. But of course we can always start conserving now and look for other sources," Lopez (2013) said. Studies have shown how water conservation and appropriate water utilization are significant as early as today.
