Conflict Handling Style in Organization:
Case study of Lao Brewery Company
I. Introduction.
Conflict is a human’s natural phenomenon, which we cannot avoid whenever people have different goal or target; and this different can cause a conflict afterward. Adams (2009) pointed out that disagreement is a part of sharing the view and will between people and he also said that to whom we can love if not an enemy, besides enemies there is nobody there to love. Conflict in social could start from minor factor within and between personal, organization and international level. The concept of conflict can cause the progress in organizational and when the conflict reaches its conclusion, it will lead to the incredibly different and creation in an organization.

Accommodating is unassertive and cooperative. This is the opposite site of competing mode. This is a pattern of those who care about the feelings of others and try to maintain the relationship for not to be getting worse. Accommodation can be useful when one is wrong or when you want to minimize losses when you are going to lose anyway because it preserves relationships. It shows tolerance and maturity of a person who think that conflict is a bad behavior. However, if you look on the other hand, people who follow others, always represents a person who has no self-confidence. Behave like obedient people. This behavior is like a child who must be obeyed at all times (Thomas, …show more content…
Unfortunately, Kaison and Somjai do not agree on the best way to promote a product line. Kaison believs that the direct mail to the existing customer would be the best way to reach target consumer. But, Somjai thinks that Kaison’ idea won’t work and rather than doing direct mail campaign, it should create a dynamic infomercial to show the consumer how good the product is. Kaison thinks this way is waste of money and worries about the logistic that would come after. They both believe that their old idea is better than other even they try to convince other but it worst. The more debate on this issues, the more the more disagree. This conflict situation is accordance to the research of Thomas (1974), which he addressed that “Competing” is a contrast atmosphere of working as team, particularly the fact that the competition among people is good to stimulate personal motivation. But, it’s not profitable if you are causing disharmony. When there is the winner, of course will have the loser, if not, it will continue to hamper or revenge each
M3 In this task am going to justify the decision, in our business we decide to hire an advertising agent that could help us promote our product, also we decide to use different media that could help us to find our target and to increase more customers in our brand, also through marketing mix this could also help us to maintain our campaign so that we could be able to manage and conduct our campaign effectively. The following are some ways that could help us to improve our campaign. There are situations where it’s easier to just do what you are told then it is to make yourself do what you are told. But that is essentially what it is about. Being a follower doesn’t mean you have to be a blind follower. To think of yourself as a one man squad would be the best analogy. You aren’t controlled by those above you, you are just taking commands from them.
Competition can allow people to set their mind to a certain goal until it is accomplished, then it becomes part of one’s knowledge and then they set their mind to another goal. This cycle may motivate people to improve their performances, seeking to better ourselves. Yet in “Competition and Happiness” Theodore Rubin analyzes the negative effects of competition and how it damages the lives of people into trying to outdo one another. Competitiveness causes more harm than benefit because it bring out the worse in people due to the set list of arbitrary rules of what is right or wrong. I believe we need to learn how to cooperate and accept ourselves because it consumes our motivation to truly ask ourselves what we what.
What this has taught me is not to be a follower or a conformer. To be self reliant is to basically be a leader. You think for yourself and do not follow. “Your conformity
Throughout history, many individuals have had the need of accessing anything that has piqued their interest. Corporations now provide a way for individuals to buy products that match their interest. Simply developing a product does not give one a chance to be successful in selling them. Some products may have competition while on the other hand, the product may not be interesting to begin with. However, advertising is what generally makes a product be either successful or a failure.
We have been trained to be obedient to authority. This quality is deep-rooted in us all from the manner in which we were brought up. It is natural for people to obey orders from those whom they recognized as their authority. This is the natural response to legitimate authority and can be learnt in a variety of situations. In a summary written in the article “The Perils of Obedience” (Milgram 1974), states: “The legal aspects of obedience are of enormous import, but they say very little about how most people behave in concrete situations.”
It is in observing how people deal with and react to conflicts that we see clear differences between cultures. Some cultures view conflict as a positive thing, while others view it as something to be avoided. In the United States, conflict is not usually desirable; nonetheless, conventional wisdom in this country encourages individuals to deal directly with conflicts when they do arise. In fact, face-to-face encounters are usually suggested as the way to work through whatever problems exist. By contrast, in many Asian countries, open conflict is experienced as embarrassing or demeaning.
3. Accommodating style (Lose-Win) Accommodating in negotiations is the opposite of competing. This means that unlike in competitive negotiations in which parties involved are only concerned with winning, in accommodative negotiations, relationship building is more important than winning. This is a style mostly used by the Brazilians.
A individual use of conflict should be used by many strategies impacted by the culture of the organization or institution but also by the personal beliefs and values. “The variables surrounding the conflict must be examined to understand and alter the choice of a particular behavioral approach to conflict”(Thomas,1976). When deciding the choice of outcome of a problem you should examine the facts and stay away from the assumptions. When managing conflicts, strategies should be utilized and reviewed so that the conflict can come to an collective solution. Some strategies to obtain during a conflict is the first strategy which is understanding that rushing to end the conflict will cause you to not be able to gather the appropriate information.
Productive conflicts are the seeds from which any and all meaningful relationships grow. This in itself requires the team to be able to talk about the problem at hand without any kind of personal attacks and instead focuses on what is best for the team. This allows team members to feel comfortable sharing their true opinions and thoughts without any fear that they may get reprised or criticised. The leaders themselves need to be careful not to try to resolve a conflict with temporary harmony and solution in order to protect certain members of the
Effective leaders must learn to embrace conflict because it is an inexorable part of human interactions and without intervention, it seldom finds its own productive solutions (Myatt, 2012). The failure to address conflict early on will likely lead to workplace acrimony, disengagement and poor communication and cooperation (Myatt, 2012). The story of the conflict between Cindy and Dr. Jones is an excellent case to analyze the elements of conflict and conflict management.
Introduction Conflict is unpleasant, but inevitable throughout life. In any situation involving two or people, conflict may arise. Conflict can be defined as, “any situation in which incompatible goals, cognitions, or emotions within or between individuals or groups lead to opposition or antagonistic interaction” (Learning Team Toolkit, 2004, pp 242-243). People come from different backgrounds and live through different life experiences therefore, even when working towards a common goal, they will not always agree. Major conflict that is not dealt with can devastate a team or organization (Make Conflict Work, 2008).
2. Accommodating is unassertive and cooperative—the complete opposite of competing. When accommodating, the individual neglects his own concerns to satisfy the concerns of the other person. 3.
Advertisement is a method of mass promotion that’s typically used by different firms to reach large groups of potential consumers to persuade and inform them about a particular brand of product or service through oral or visual message. This means that the aim of any advertising is to differentiate and deliver various information about the product and the company to the prospective and existing consumers, it is therefore vital to make the message of the advertising effective, clear, focused and singular to make it easy for the target customers to hold on to it and catch it; as this provides a basis for
