[Conspiracy Theory Essay - Taylor Hauss - Russo - 8C] For Socratic Seminar I believe we should be discussing the Bermuda Triangle. There are many theories on why ships and planes always disappear, including Aliens, a Space-Time Warp, or even the gravitational mascons theory. I myself believe all of these are wrong though. The most believable theory in my opinion is that it doesn’t even exist. Evidence behind this theory: After years of theory after theory, Larry Kusche noticed that the amount of disappearances wasn’t any different compared to other heavily trafficked areas of the ocean. When nobody could prove Larry wrong, many believers lost faith in their theories. When Larry Krusche published his book “The Bermuda Triangle Mystery: Solves”
In contrast to unreasonable discounts of conspiracy theories, a new approach to phenomena of conspiracy theories focuses on investigation of the cause of conspiracy within a particular historical context. A variety of scholars from different disciplines have pursued to address the logic of conspiracy theory, within cultural and political context. This generates critical comment. A new aspect with a focus on conspiracy as a culture detailed by Peter Knight in his books, (Conspiracy Culture: From Kennedy to the X-Files and Conspiracy Nation: The Politics of Paranoia) provides a new insight in understanding conspiracy theories.
Columbus and Lindbergh both have been on amazing and intriguing adventures. Both of these men have faced many challenges during these adventures. Columbus incorporated his sailing skills from previous years of sailing into his adventure to find a route to Asia by sea. Lindbergh used his flying skills he previously learned in life in order to go on his adventure.
In the summer of 1947, there was a day that caused a lot of speculation and hysteria in Roswell, a city in New Mexico. On that day, June 14th, 1947, an unknown object crash-landed into a ranch in the city of Roswell, New Mexico, leaving a huge amount of debris. There were many people that did not know what to make of this, and asked themselves, “Was that an alien crash or was it something else?” Many people claimed that it was from an unidentified flying object, or UFO, but others believe it is something less interesting. However, the hype of the incident was silenced until 1979 after the U.S. government officially declared that the debris was nothing more than the debris of a weather balloon.
The murder theory is the most convincing, but the lack of evidence makes it hard to believe. Also due to the lack of evidence, the assumed name theory is also hard to consider. Though the authorities have failed to provide evidence to Hoffa's whereabouts, one thing is certain. The James Riddle ¨Jimmy¨ Hoffa disappearance case has baffled the American people for nearly 43
On June 14, 1947, the town of Roswell, New Mexico was home to a discovery that would propel the fifth-largest New Mexico city to worldwide fame. The discovery, in question, was debris that is debated to be either manmade or alien in origin. While bizarre conspiracy theories were given the spotlight a few decades later, the Roswell Incident managed to influence popular culture from things like The X-Files to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. Nowadays, Roswell serves as a tourist attraction due it its infamy, with plastic green and grey aliens plastered all over town and even a McDonald’s shaped like a flying saucer. Regardless of the town’s current playful reputation as a UFO enthusiast’s Mecca, the infamy itself is due to a decades long heated debate
These dangerous effects mean only the abilities of transportation and invisibility can be used under very minimal circumstances. Everyone knows about the Philadelphia Experiment, but whether this story is true or just a myth still needs to be solved. The great conspiracy theory started to unravel when Morris Jessup an author of a book about UFOs that had contained information and details from the Philadelphia Experiment had been called to the U.S. Navy’s office of Naval Research to solve the secret of the mysterious experiment. The ONR wanted to know how Jessup had gotten the notes to write his book.
Discourse Analysis and Rhetoric The two articles, The Mystery of the Bermuda Triangle and The Truth about Bermuda Triangle, present a strong analysis of viewpoints by strongly using rhetorical appeals as well as rhetoric devices. The articles are meant for general readership and as such a simple and non-technical language is utilized which make the articles easily understood by the general public. The stand point of the two articles is similar and is almost presented in the same manner with the authors debunking the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle by digging holes in the evidence fronted in support of the mystery. The strong use of rhetorical appeals makes the stand point of the articles convincing to the readers.
Last July, two Florida teenagers, Perry Cohen and Austin Stephanos, set out for a day of boating from the Jupiter Inlet and were never heard from again. Days of searching and hoping turned up nothing. What happened to the teens and their 19-foot, single-engine boat remains a mystery. Only one thing is known for certain – searchers would have had a better chance of finding the boys if their boat had been equipped with an emergency indicator radio beacon (EPIRB) that could have signaled their location.
I have always enjoyed exploring the world, but the adventure that always sticks out the most was my cruise to the tropical paradise of Bermuda. I have cruised to the Bahamas, as well as spent countless weeks of my lifetime in the Outer Banks. The cruise to Bermuda was only my second time out of the country, leaving from Baltimore, Maryland one Friday afternoon and arriving on the shores of the tropical island on Sunday afternoon. Waking up on a Saturday in the beginning of August and being able to look out the window and seeing water for as far as you can see is a one time thing and an experience like no other. The days spent traveling the open seas, gives you the chance to live life while leaving all of your baggage back on shore.
After their plane had disappeared, they had lost radio communication, so a search party was sent. The search party found remains from the plane near Nikumaroro, Kiribati. ("Amelia Earhart." Colombia Electronic Encyclopedia.) There are many myths on Earhart and Noonan's disappearance.
