EXPERIMENTAL ANALYSIS ON HEAT TRANSFER ENHANCEMENT OF DOUBLE PIPE HEAT EXCHANGER USING NANOFLUID AND BAFFLED TWISTED TAPE INSERTS

Abstract: The paper deals with the use of baffled twisted tapes, Titanium /water nanofluid, Titanium dioxide+Copper oxide/water nanofluid and Alumina/water nanofluid as compound heat transfer enhancement technique in double pipe heat exchanger. Experiments are conducted inorder to evaluate the friction factor and the heat transfer coefficient for the flow through the heat exchanger. The effect of rectangular baffled twisted tape (RBTT), circular baffled twisted tape (CBTT), Triangular baffled twisted tape (TBTT) and Rectangle with a hole baffled twisted tape were also studied. Experiments are conducted using water and nanofluid of 0.1% volume concentration. The results showed that noticeable enhancement in heat transfer coefficient with use of modified twisted tapes and nanofluids. Baffled twisted tapes show higher heat transfer coefficient than twisted tapes without baffles. Rectangle with a hole baffled twisted tape has the maximum heat transfer coefficient value than RBTT, CBTT and TBTT. The generation of secondary flow will disturb the thermal boundary layer and thereby increases the heat transfer coefficient. Chemical bonding, also known as chemical reactions, are happening all around us. From cold packs we use on various injuries to the water we drink, they’re all results of chemical bonding. To be more specific, endothermic and exothermic reactions are both types of chemical reactions that are classified by the heat energy that is either released or absorbed when a reaction occurs. An example of an endothermic reaction would be an “instant cold pack”, which become chilled when activated. As for exothermic reactions, “hot packs” make great examples due to their significant temperature increase in just a few minutes.

Introduction: In this experiment, we are required to discover the 2 unknown chemicals provided by the teacher through the usage of different lab equipment and scientific procedures to conclude what the unknown substances are. The findings/results will be presented in a qualitative table and further discussed. There are 6 possible substances that the 2 unknowns could be. If the substance is benzoic acid then it would have to pass the organic solvent test because it dissolves in only organic solvents, while if it were silicon dioxide it would fail both solubility tests for organic and aqueous solvents.
The purpose and significance of this experiment was to find the specific heat and figure out an identification of an unknown metal. The specific heat was calculated through a given formula. The unknown metal was found through descriptions that matched the unknown metal. The unknown elements would be one of the following: Al, Bi, Cd, Cu, Fe, Pb, Ni, Na, Sn, or Zn. First the specific heat of water was measured, then heat flow was measured using equations.

It’s important to use those labels, such as endothermic, exothermic, and cannot tell because those labels made it possible so there could be distinctions made on certain solutions and help better understand the behavior of them whether its in an oven or not and it interacts with the air in settings. The reason we did this was to understand that the properties and behaviors of a compound are all we need to correctly identify them, and not just knowing the name of them. INTRODUCTION: In this experiment I was testing for antimicrobial sensitivity of Staphylococcus epidermidis by using the Kirby-Bauer Diffusion test. The three antibiotics utilized in this lab were: gentamicin, novobiocin, and penicillin. I determined the effectiveness of the antibiotic by observing and measuring the zone of inhibition for each antibiotic.
The results from most of the experiment best fit with Potassium chloride, although not all the test fit with potassium chloride. For example, in “Part A” When the salt was put in the flame it made the flame turn violet. This supports the conclusion that the salt is potassium chloride because potassium chloride also makes a violet flame when burned. The flame test was the most conclusive test because all 8 of the possible salts that were given have very significant flame color. None of the other salts have a violet color flame when burned which goes to prove that the salt is potassium chloride.
