In Leo R. Chavez’s ethnography, The Latino Threat: Constructing Immigrants, Citizens, and the Nation, the claimed problem of Latino immigration, specifically Mexicans, is tackled using interviews, statistics, and other works of literature. Chavez’s ethnography not only discusses Latino immigration but Latino invasion, integration, organ transplants and even Latina fertilization. One of Chavez’s big topics is on how the media influences the public to believe that Latinos are planning an invasion or take-over in order to gain the land that was originally Mexico’s. The topic of Latina reproduction and fertilization comes up multiple times through Chavez’s ethnography. Another main topic that plays a part in Chavez’s argument is the Latino role in public marches and the citizenship aspect of their actions.
The history of Latinos in Utah is complex, but it is also a history that is neither well represented in mainstream recounting nor well recognized in the mainstream understanding of Utah’s past. Convoluted interactions among Native Americans, Spaniards, French, Mexicans, Anglos, and others shaped the story of Utah. Awareness of the long presence of Hispanics in Utah is essential to understanding the history of the state. This volume is an attempt to piece together that history through photos and oral histories.
I think that Dagoberto Gilb really made a great point to connect to what Urrea was trying to say about the history of the boarder in his book. Gilb talks about how the people of Arizona and even all over the country like to pretend that Latinos are almost invisible. They are given no credit for actually giving Arizona and other places the culture it has which many white people seem to love. In both texts, the theme of ethnic profiling is present. This is a common issue in American culture today, making these two texts stand out. The authors are able to develop their common theme with literary devices such as metaphor, dialogue, and Irony that can be found throughout both texts to support the theme that ethnic profiling is an issue in culture everywhere.

Born and raised in Santa Barbra California, Peter Giovani Petatan have lived 21 years of his life in the U.S. along with his mother and father who were born and raised in Mexico. Although born and raised in California Peter and his family currently reside in Macon, GA. Now as a college student this has been the first time he has ever lived outside of home. Nevertheless, he feels as if he’s able to adapt to this new environment effortlessly in terms of the university and community.
Profiling against immigrants isn't only targeted towards illegal immigrants. It is targeted towards all generations of Latinos in the United State, this is discriminatory and unconstitutional. We shouldn't allow citizens as well as none citizens to be harassed by authorities because they look like where they came from. Latino illegal immigrants only make up two-thirds of the immigrants in this country, and of the percent, 93 percent of arrested immigrants have been Latinos. My question now is how will we fight against illegal immigration if not all immigrants have dark skin and accents.

Because there is an attempt to quantify and biologically define race, this precedes the oppressive and injustice factors I may face by systematic racism. I have often been turned down for jobs despite my qualifications, most likely due to the negative connotations attached to the Spanish name given to me. Hypothetical and symbolic titles are inaccurately assumed to predict one’s capability and worth. This is especially true with the negative implications attached to the brown community, such as laziness, untrustworthiness, ignorance, and lack of education.
