Layap is the Iloco word for meteor. It is a popular belief in Ilocos Norte that when you happen to see a meteor, wish upon it and that aspiration will come true. I have witnessed several layap falling from the vast skies; I’ve done countless wishes and most of them I already forgot because it did not come true. The layap may impart a lesson of patience and the value of hard work when you really want to achieve something. This astral phenomenon projects the Ilocano value of diligence and optimism. The layap symbolizes hope, it may vanish fast from the sky but the hope still lingers. The layap represents the Ilocano optimism.

The baggak clearly owns the northern sky at the break of dawn. Its manifestation in the Ilocos sky is also translated into an artistic masterpiece. The baggak is a design element and an optic expression for the handwoven textiles of Ilocos Norte. The baggak is depicted as a geometrical quadrilateral image that is woven on the template of the textile. For the Ilocanos, the baggak is a symbol of renewal.
Maruprup: Spectral Mirage Maruprup is the Iloco term for the Milky Way galaxy. The maruprup serves as an artistic edifice for the weavers of Piddig, Ilocos Norte. The design template of maruprup is a geometrical configuration of threads woven into a textile template depicted in an abstract manner. Juan Gomez Quinones, historian and scholar defines culture as a “central concept” that all people share. That concept varies from the group’s behaviorism, habits and beliefs. Quinones believe that factors such as “culture, history, and nationality” are all interconnected which gives people a common ground. Quinone’s calculated language on his concept of culture invokes a sense of similarity and trivial connection between humans. Instead of describing how diverse culture separates people, Quinone’s embraces the ability of diversity to bind people to one large community.
CASE STUDY 2 In his ethnography “Yanomamo: The Fierce People,” Napolleon A. Chagnon seeks to describe the behavior of the Yanomamo and their social organization (1968). The human practices identified in this ethnography overlap the following aspects of politics and kinship: integration, conflict, agnatic kinship, affinity, authority, and marriage. Yanomamo people occupy the forested hill areas sprawling the border between Venezuela and Brazil, and they practice horticulture. Chagnon describes Yanomamo as "the fierce people" who are actively involved in warfare.

The Earth's climate went through several major changes throughout the Tertiary period that led to the flourishing of primate species and the extinction of other primate species. The plesiadaptiforms, which are not considered real primates because of the lack of key primate features, went extinct at the end of the Paleocene epoch. At the beginning of the Eocene epoch came the euprimates, considered the first real primates, whose features made them well-adapted to arboreal life. Euprimates had convergent eye orbits, opposable digits, nails, and larger brains than plesiadaptiforms. This coincides with a period of global warming which made for a more tropical and forested habitat.

This paper will be describing, comparing, and contrasting the behavior of two species of captive primates at the Alexandria Zoo, golden lion tamarins and howler monkeys, as well as discussing the possible effects captivity could have had on them.
