A leader is someone you can look up to with admiration. A proper leader does not mislead the people that stand with them. They are open, honest, and responsible. They don’t hide their failures. They own up to their mistakes because that’s what leaders do.
Leadership is defined as the action of leading a group of people or an organization. In my eyes, I believe everyone is a leader in someway. They can lead by example, by teaching, or just by actions. Martin Luther King Jr. is known as a very noble leader, but leaders don 't always get their name engraved into history. Children can lead other children, adults can lead other adults and friends and lead their own friends.
Standing before the podium is a leader with their back straight, their feet planted firmly on the ground, and their voice reaching out to the people around them. Men, women, and children all stand together listening to their leader with their minds and hearts. Throughout history, there have been numerous leaders, such as the famous Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King Jr., and Gandhi. These individuals all shared the same qualities to make them successful leaders, and these qualities helped them to accomplish their goals. In Daniel Goleman’s article “What Makes a Leader?,” Goleman mentions five important qualities of a good leader: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills.
Today the world is so focused on how we dress and how we do stuff in the society. I am going to talk about leaders who are effective in today’s society but in the book Lord of the Flies too. I am also going to mention who I would have followed if I was in the book Lord of the Flies. Leadership is a very big and important role to come by in today’s society. Most people say they can be good leaders but in reality they don’t really play out to make a good leader.
Lord of the flies is a novel written by William Golding which illustrates the actions of man that is destruction to the planet. Lord of the flies is about a group of young children that crash landed on an island and were stranded on an island with no adults, without any parents there was no-one to no rules on the island order the boys soon became wild and their human instinct of killing soon arouse. This is the topic William Golding wanted to highlight in writing the novel. The book defines the true nature of humankind with the presence of civilisation. “Leaders are people who do the right thing; managers are people who do things right.”
Leaders: What to Look For “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.” ~ John Quincy Adams John Quincy Adams’ quote incites some thought. There are undoubtedly high expectations from people placed in positions of authority. A leader has many responsibilities placed on his shoulders. The most important characteristics to look for in a leader are impossible to determine; however, three virtues have been defined to watch for when looking for a leader: integrity, initiative, and inspiration.
Leadership is something that stands out. Good leadership is always important. You always want to follow the strongest person in the group right? Well in the book called “Lord of the Flies” Ralph is a better leader than Jack. Some reasons include Ralph has a goal or clear vision of being rescued.
“Would I ever be able to play in the NBA?” is the question I sometimes ask myself just to find a little bit of joy, to make myself laugh a little bit more and to make a dream more tangible. Yes, you are right, I love basketball, I love it so much that if it could have a life, it would know me better than I would, it would be my teacher and my best friend forever. I remember the first time I played basketball. I was a fifth grader, exposed to an unfamiliar sport in a country where soccer takes over, but I fell in love with it, the moment I touched it, I knew it was special.
Another theory deals with the concept of archetypes. According to this approach, the actions of leaders tend to be rather predictable depending on their archetypes. In 1989, Pearson mentioned six archetypes, which may be related to the stages of maturity of a person: the innocent, the orphan, the martyr, the wanderer, the warrior, and the magician (Northouse, 2004). When people first start their lives, they start in a state of innocence, but eventually they move to the next stages and behave according to the other archetypes. Northouse (2004) illustrates the differences in the archetypes explaining that in the presence of danger the wanderer flees, the martyr suffers for others and the warrior fights.
