In marching band, it takes a lot of dedication. If someone is going to be in marching band, they will have to put in the time and the effort. Marching bands everywhere practice for hours in the heat; always memorizing their spots on the field, their music, and their visual effects. Everything about band is stressful because it constantly cuts in on a band members social life, but after they perform they will feel great. In most marching bands, the motto is one band one sound, meaning that a band member needs to show leadership, responsibility, and teamwork.

In most high school bands, there is a leader for every section. For example, the flute section has a leader, the saxophone section has a leader, or the tuba section has a leader. Teamwork is really just making sure every band member has all of their parts down, and trying their very best at every practice and performance. As my band director always said “if one improves, the whole band improves.” If a band member has their duties completed, they should help someone else who is struggling with theirs. Teamwork can lead to better performances in the future.

Marching band; copious amounts of people scoff at the sound of those words. I often hear students commenting on how easy marching band is, how we don’t train like the football players do. At Anderson High School, that’s not the case, the marching band trains for just as long. As a band of over 125 individuals, it takes determination, pride, and confidence to achieve the goals we have set forth to accomplish. As a leader of the saxophone section, I know what it’s like to face failure, to overcome and turn it into success and to march on with confidence.
Many students have the opportunity to work in teams whether it’s a sport or a club that partakes in competitions. For me, that activity is marching band. Although marching band isn’t a sport, it’s similar in the team aspect, except we can have 150 or more other team members. Working in such a large group can be very overwhelming and time consuming. The season starts in late June and can go on well into the months of November or December.
The History of Marching Band There are many things that have influenced my love for music. However, the most influential of them all would have to be marching band. Marching band has been a major part of my life for 10 years. Marching band has been a way that musicians for many years have portrayed music throughout history.
For one, it is extremely difficult no matter what role you play in the band i.e. color guard, percussionist in the pit or other member. Even though some members of the band may exert less energy than others it is really difficult to be in marching band. DCI and other competitive leagues of marching band are proof that marching band is extremely competitive. In DCI every member has to audition every year, and before auditions for DCI you have to make all-state. All-state is a marching band comprised from of the best players in a single state or region.
To the average person, the high school marching band is nothing more than a bunch of geeks that play during half time at the football games or monopolize the benches by the band hall, but to me, it is so much more. To me it is a family, a safe haven, a creative outlet, a home. I have been involved in marching band for three years, going on four, and I wouldn 't trade the experience for anything. When I entered high school as a scared and awkward freshman, I immediately had three hundred people that I could rely on. The program quickly became like a second home to me and opened up a whole new path in my life.
Being a leader involves many different characteristics. A leader must set the example for all others in the group, because if they are to show up late to practice, there isn’t a reason that any of the other members should not do the same. A leader must take risks for the benefit of the group as well as make sacrifices for it. Becoming the leader of the group requires for them to be the most dedicated. They must work harder and not be afraid to lead the group.
This applies to all aspects of band, from marching to classical to jazz. Directors hand out a piece of music and for the next three months, it is all that the students look at. In marching band it is made worse by the fact that you spend an hour during school working on the music itself, and three more after school working on both the music and marching. Classical band has its own share of problems though, as most of the time you are left doing nothing while the director works with another section. Jazz band may be the least offensive of the three, as aspects like improvisation helps, but it still is practically the same thing: staring at a sheet of paper until you’ve memorized your part, the person next to you’s part, and pretty much everything you ever wanted to know about the music.

INTRODUCTION The word ‘team’ can be defined as a group of people working together towards a common goal. A team also generally is known as a group of people with different skills and different tasks, who works together on a common project, services, or goal. Then, the important thing in teamwork is ‘collaboration’, which is the act of working effectively with others to achieve a common goal. Collaboration acts as the lifeblood in the team, even the team is not large enough, but the collaboration is required.
Leadership in the Army is the fundamental foundation of the organization. Leaders like Officers and Non- Commission Officers implement and set the standard of leader to soldiers. These leaders ensure the Army soldiers are trained and prepare for any hardships they face. The term Leadership can be defined differently based on the organization in which the term is applied to. In the Army Leadership can be described as a "characterized by a complex mix of organizational, situational, and mission demands on a leader who applies personal qualities, abilities, and experiences to exert influence on the organization, its people, the situation, and the unfolding mission" (ADP 6-22).
In essence, teamwork can be defined as a group of people working in the same direction and for a common purpose. Teamwork requires individuals be a team player and to be able to work well with others; after all, there is no “I” in “Team”! As with any endeavour, we faced some initial setbacks. With this being our first college team assignment, we were all treading on unfamiliar territory.
The dictionary definition of teamwork is: 'the process of working collaboratively with a group of people to achieve a common goal. ' Our world runs largely on interdependence. Companies today know that effective products or services need multiple skills to be created and therefore better solutions, services, or products depend on better teamwork. More and more organizations nowadays assess teamwork skills before recruitment, yet our education has very rarely helped us to develop teamwork skills.
LEADERSHIP LESSONS FROM SPORTS What is Leadership? Leadership is defined as the ability to influence a group towards the achievement of a vision or set of goals. The source of this influence may be formal, as happens by organizational hierarchy. However, this does not imply that every manager is a leader or only managers are leaders. The ability to influence and motivate an individual may arise in any non-formal structure as well.
Teamwork in the workplace gives the company and employees the ability to become more familiar with each other and learn how to work together. Teamwork is also essential to the success of an organisation and to the development of each employee. Understanding teamwork will assist in developing company's policies with regards to teamwork in the workplace. ● Responsibility and Delegation.
