On the positive side I feel that I have solid communication skills and can form valuable lasting relationships that are based on honesty, integrity and caring about individuals feelings and needs. Scarnati (1997) argues that honesty and integrity are essential elements successful leaders should demonstrate. I value employees and am mindful to treat them with respect and recognize their individual differences, desires and ensure them that they matter to the organization. Comaford (2013) argues that employees that are made to feel they matter are more creative, more likely to collaborate and problem solving ability increases. I am a strong believer in collaboration and value a team approach whenever possible. I am confident in my overall people skills but realize there is always room for …show more content…
Upon entering this course, I knew providing a compelling vision of the future was possibly my biggest weakness. The results I received in the Mind Tools leadership assessment confirmed my thoughts as this was my lowest scoring category. In my organization I am expected to be a leader by my senior administrators but realized I function more closely to a manager. Maccoby (2000) argues that managers focus on day to day tasks such as business plans, monitoring progress and budgets while leader’s inspire change. In my current job, I am accountable for just under seventy employees with one manager that is only over thirty of my employees. I realized that I must function as a manager because I need to run day to day operations for over half of my employees, but can improve upon my leadership skills and meld them together. I have started to focus more attention on the future vision of my departments and am more willing to take risks. Additionally, I have placed a higher emphasis on inspiring and motivating employees to come up with ideas and suggestions for process change and future growth. Lastly, I have empowered several employees to become team leads and am mentoring these individuals in day to day operations to free me up for higher level leadership initiatives. In the second week of this course I developed a cardiovascular screening concept that included a long term vision of being
I consider working as a member team, communication, active learning, and personal services to be some of my strongest assets I have to offer; while I find that I excel in relating to children and adapting to people in all environment. I am very committed to everything I do and will not stop until the job is done and done right. I believe that building relations with those I am working alongside is important for the success of any well run team.
“Su Corazón, Su Vida” curriculum was developed by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute to target cardiovascular
To Kotter the purpose of leadership is to propel an organization into the future by finding opportunities and successfully exploiting them. Effective leading is having a vision and being able to get buy in from people and by empowering them, one can create substantial change (CITE KOTTER HBR 2). It is also important to note that Kotter describes leaderships as strategic procedures that makes an organization adaptable to substantial change (CITE). With this purpose and definition in mind, one can hypothesize that to successfully lead during change a leader needs to; have a future expressed by a vision, align employees to the vision and empower them to overcome problems related to the transition in implementing change.
Kool-Aid Consent A popular comment made in regards to attending the Chief Petty Officer Academy is, “don’t drink the Kool-Aid”. The Chief Petty Officer Academy provided several tools that will positively impact the Coast Guard. Fitness and well-being, coaching and various surveys will help improve my interaction with others and ultimately their future interactions.
During my high school years I was able to channel my passion to examine discrimination and social development through my involvement with the Sadie Nash Leadership Project (SNLP). SNLP is a woman’s education and advocacy nonprofit committed to promoting leadership among underrepresented young women. For the first time in my life, I was having deep personal conversations with empowered women. We sought to inspect and challenge unequal power dynamics based on numerous systems of oppression. We questioned why women didn’t feel empowered to make decisions and be leaders, as well as what actions and involvement we as young women can have to impact change on a larger scale.
Personal Assessment Leadership Style After taking the Blake and Mouton Managerial Grid Leadership Assessment Questionnaire and the Leadership Legacy Assessment I now have a better understanding of my real and potential leadership skills and abilities. I have been working at Petsmart as a groomer for 6 years while going to school. I have never been interested in a management position there primarily due to the terrible types of managers I was surrounded by, even though I had assisted in management positions numerous occasions and had been offered management positions. A year and a half ago I found the perfect position for me though.

I get along well in a team setting and have gained great problem solving skills. Diligence is a very important attribute to me because I always do my best in everything and I always finish what I started. All these attributes is what makes me qualified for this
Lead·er n. a person that leads; it takes certain amounts of skills and determination to be an effective leader. I have always strived to be a leader, but struggled because I was so shy. As I grew older, met incredible people, and had amazing experiences, I became determined to overcome my own insecurities and develop leadership skills to help inspire others. I have fond memories from my childhood, although I prefer those from home over the ones from school. I never struggled at school academically, but during my elementary years I was bullied by fellow classmates and soon developed severe social insecurities which set me back from my peers.
In spite of the fact that’ leadership analysis’ is the art of breaking down a leader into basic psychological components for study and use by academics and practitioners, a sound leadership analyses
As I have reflected on this paper—it has become evident that it is fully undergirded by my personal values—which probably doesn’t come as a surprise. I work hard to create an environment where everyone is crystal clear on my expectations and there the no barriers in getting clarification if they aren’t clear. I ask people to make commitments and, where I have flexibility, negotiate with them to agree on reasonable deliverables and timelines. More important, is that I deliver as I have promised. For me this is about trust and accountability.
Module 8: Leadership Model MGT 560: Leadership Development Colorado State University-Global Campus Professor: Tom Woodruff May 03, 2015 : Introduction The Case Study, The Food Terminal (A) has been considered to offer the Model adapted from Montgomery, Copley, and Associates (1996) as a solution for the issues arising out of the case study. A professional situation experienced by me has been considered too and the model employed while I was working as a Manager. Heart Mike mentioned that he was initially nervous while getting the responsibilities and was asked to meet the department managers, and that he could see the look of disappointment in their eyes. He had the heart to share that most of these managers
Heaney when she talks to the whole class I feel like she is only talking to me because I am looking at her and listening which makes me even more focused on the person. I have articulated ideas and thoughts clearly when someone is explaining to me or when I am about to say something or before I action. As a Collaborative Worker: I have developed interpersonal skills by trying to make friends and talking to strangers in school that of course are in my class and by entering the teen entrepreneur academy in summer that led me to do presentation better than when I was in 9th grade. I have valued individuals ideas when working in a team or when debating in class or outdoors for example in my dance class and English class I have valued my classmates ideas in how to structure the steps or how to create a do what chart.
INTRODUCTION The idea of leadership is the most vital aspect in any organization’ existence, because it decides the long haul survival of such an organization. In perspective, leadership is the platform upon which organizational goals and objectives are achieved. In spite of the fact that, leadership is viewed as a natural capacity to influence others by controlling the conduct of different individuals from a group, leadership approaches have advanced and past influence, to incorporate motivation and empowering of others to accomplish organizational objectives (Rosette and Tost, 2010; Caldwell and Dixon, 2010). Also, leadership is a transforming process targeted at the developing employees for the achievement of organizational goals.
In addition, when I have been in the situation when an individual needed negative feedback, I always tried to start off with something positive they had done” (personal communication, January 20, 2018).
