One of the way I have contributed and impacted my community is through and being a part of an organization called Wisconsin Leadership Seminar (WILS). Every year the majority of Wisconsin high schools selects one sophomore student to participate in the Wisconsin Leadership Seminar. Sturgeon Bay High School elected to send me to this prestigious opportunity my sophomore year. During the seminar, I improved my leadership skills, while also making friends I am still in touch with today. The best part of this experience was being able to grow and connect with other future leaders. Since this organization helped me grow so much, I have stayed connected with it by attending every reunion possible, going back to be on the operations team and become …show more content…
One of the key concepts at WILS is volunteering and giving back to the community. Therefore, no matter where the reunion is held there is at least a half of a day volunteering and giving. In the last reunion held about a month ago, we had such a big group of volunteers that we had to split into two. The group that I was in went to the local homeless shelter. Once we got there, there was a list of tasks that they had hoped we could help with. While talking to the leader of the homeless shelter, he requested that my group focus on getting the mail orders ready. Each year they send out over 500 calendars to the surrounding area as their main way of collecting funding. At the previous reunion, I volunteered at a local women’s shelter. At the local women’s shelter I participated in pins, magnets, posters, pin-wheels and other crafts for the upcoming women’s awareness week. Since I have been a part of WILS for almost two years now, I have been a part of a lot volunteer work. Another example is cleaning horse stalls at equestrian farms. This was super fun because we were helping an organization that uses horse to connect with individuals with disabilities. Moreover, I have sorted clothes at goodwill, cleaned and sorted food pantry and I know many more opportunities are yet to …show more content…
The way I did this was going back to the next Annual Seminar to help the incoming group of leaders. I was a part of the Operations team this past summer. This team worked behind the scenes to make sure everything ran smoothly. For example, my team mates and I packed lunches for the 250 kids going out to volunteer. In addition, I assisted the treasure with all of their duties. Since the treasure job is to make sure WILS is economically stable, he/she has to do a lot of work by maintain the WILS store. Therefore, I worked hand and hand with the treasure to ensure the best for WILS. One of the first task the treasure and I did, is sort through all the current products and the sort through all the newly ordered clothes. After that, I wrote a poster with all the merchandise available and the prices. Over the course of the weekend, the treasurer and I put down and put back up the WILS store in convenient locations at least four times. Having the opportunity to return and volunteer my services to help the weekend run smoothly, was a really gratifying experience and made me realize how much a difference I could make by helping this Annual Seminar. That weekend I just did not help one community, I helped ensure that student leaders had a great weekend, which allowed them to go back into their individual communities and make a difference.
In summary,
I volunteered for the Product Recovery section that organized groceries and distributed them into certain boxes. HPFB is working to help prevent hunger and can provide four meals worth of food for
In 2007, I, along with a few of my peers, founded the Little Lemon Drop Jr. Guild as a way to give back to our community. Since then, this nonprofit organization has raised thousands of dollars that has gone to support uncompensated care at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Throughout my middle school and high school years, I have been very involved with this group. When I had the opportunity to choose a service placement for this year, I immediately knew I would be doing my service through the Little Lemon Drop Jr. Guild because of my previous involvement with the guild and my passion for the cause the guild supports.
We also provided answers to any question that people had in regards to the food bank or the festival. The assignment did not seem overly difficult but did have allot of interaction with the public so it was essential that we provided a very positive influence and genuine interest in accepting the donations along with expressing good
For the past two years, I have been involved in the Carmax Cares community service month. We provided assistance to the Foster Care Support Foundation in Roswell, Georgia. This organization sends out gently worn closes, shoes and other necessities to support foster care providers in the state of Georgia. We packaged items to be sent out and organized their warehouse inventory. On campus I am an active member of SABAC as well as the Georgia Club.
The organization, which I decided to volunteer two hours of my day to, was Cumac. Cumac is located in Paterson, New Jersey and they work to serve the people in the counties of Passaic, Paterson, and Northern New Jersey. They work with a staff of 21 and volunteers from all over to help people in need with food and supplies they would need to survive. Their mission statement is: “CUMAC feeds people and changes lives. It works to alleviate hunger and its root causes for those in need in Paterson, Passaic County, and northern New Jersey.”
Some recent volunteer activities/events were free yoga in the park, a canned good drive, and a free dental clinic for those in need. A graduate
I organized multiple clothing, food, and book drives. While I was a Girl Scout, I earned my Bronze and Silver award: the second and third highest awards a Girl Scout can earn. Some other examples of events that I’ve planned to give back to my community are cheer clinics, movie nights, and 8th grade prom. I also have gift wrapped at the KMCC during the holiday season, tutored students at the Intermediate School, volunteered at the Ramstein Bazaar, picked up trash around the base, and bagged groceries at the commissary multiple times. Taking action in the community is important to me because I like to make positive impacts that benefit the lives of

By volunteering at my local church and helping with local service projects, I have realized the commitment and perseverance it takes to lead by example. At my local church I continue to help with the organization of my youth group. After speaking at church staff meetings for several months we made it our goal to improve the youth group by ensuring that children and teens of all ages were included and had an opportunity to participate. I was able to create a system where teens who attended high school were paired with a middle school individual of the church. This provided a sense of inclusiveness and made the youth group more enjoyable for everyone.
Kappa Gamma Pi is a prestigious honor society that only a select group of student’s quality to apply for membership. It is a great honor to be offered the opportunity to become a part of an honor society that has an emphasis on excellence in leadership. Throughout my college career at St Joseph’s College and within my daily life I strived to achieve excellence. Leadership is an essential skill one must obtain especially within my program of study, Child Study. A teacher acts as a role model, and guide for their students.
Growing up, my parents couldn 't always afford what I wanted, but I always had food and shelter. My dad’s family brought him to California chasing the American dream. He had to dropout of high school in order to help provide for his family due to economic problems. He was only sixteen having to work in the fields. My dad is currently working as a forklift driver for Driscoll’s where he has been working for over twenty-five years.
There was a time when I can help student understand the concept better during school and it help them get their grades better. These leadership help me impact a positive change to not just me but to people who wanted
At Lampasas High School I show leadership in many ways, like volunteering to answer questions or be the example in class, being part of the National Honor Society, and being a student athlete. I am also in the Gear Up Leadership program at Lampasas High School, where I am pushed to set the best example for others, I am challenged to promote a college and career oriented future. I believe being a good role model is one of the best ways to show leadership. This past year I was chosen by staff at my school for demonstrating leadership, citizenship, and character in my school and my community, to attend American Legion Auxiliary Bluebonnet Girls State. It was such an honor to be able to attend Bluebonnet Girls State where only 500 hundred girls
Looking into this challenge, I can see how this would hinder my growth as a leader. Things around us are constantly changing and what has worked in the past may not be the best solution. I will start to explore and seek out challenging opportunities that I can learn from through testing my own skills and abilities. I also want to be able to help others visualize an image of what the future can be like if goals are met. By being exceed those and accomplish the highest goal we have set for ourselves.
