After watching the videos I realized how horrible of a learner I was. I also realized; that if I was to have any chance of getting the desired education, and occupational attainment, some adjustments needed to be made. I used to study, and do homework while being on Facebook or listening to music. However instead of helping me focus, and concentrate like I thought it, would it only distracted me, and prevented me from getting my homework completed on time. Chew points out in (Chew, S. Video 1: Beliefs That Make You Fail…Or Succeed . Retrieved March 2, 2015, from http://www.samford.edu/how-to-study/) that many students make this mistake, and instead of remembering facts, and information they needed to know; they only remembered the conversations …show more content…
Another thing I had problems with was time management, I would procrastinate a lot or complain about how I do not have time to study, or get my work done. This semester, after attending a time management class I realized I had 40 hours a week of free time, and I used that time poorly, having fun or being lazy. They then told me how I should be managing my time and trying to get all of my work done before playing, and since I was poor at managing time it showed in my work and performance that I done things the 11th hour. My study habits, were very poor. I used to believe that I did not need to go to class or stay the whole class period, I also barely read the textbook at all, and since I had poor time management skills I procrastinated and waited until the very last minute to study. This resulted in poor grades, and more stress and agony. If you want the A or desired grade you have to work hard for it, and have the right mindset. So I have now decided on Sundays to plan, and manage my entire week, and set study and homework times, and stick through with …show more content…
There are many things I can do to manage my stress better is to make better and smarter choices. I started off at a community college, and most of the stress I experienced was what my old psychology professor called environmental stress. College exposes you to all different kinds of people, ideas, and interests. If you choose to hang with crowds, that has low academic, and high social values you may be popular, but you will not succeed in the classroom, and if you do not produce good academic and social fruit then you will not last long in college. When I was reading the UIC pamphlet basically these values stuck out to me, stay organized, manage and plan your time accordingly. The emphasis of this is to stick to it, and follow through in order to achieve your desired educational attainment. Some ways I can achieve this is taking some time management classes, and pick up hobbies that can help me cope with the daily grind of being a student. This can include meditation, joining a club, or team, and reconnecting with a good old video game system. It is also very important to take control of your environment. Avoid people who bring negative stress to you. Seek people who are goal oriented, have a good moral foundation and shares similar values and interests with you. In order to avoid harmful
As a result, I would frequently receive poor grades, which caused me a lot of stress and anxiety. It was only when I started to plan my work and give it the time it
Despite the many hours I worked on the class, I still could only get C’s on the tests. I spent most of my free time correcting my quizzes and rewriting notes from the class. I was struggling- so much that I let my other classes slip away. At home, I would fight with my mother about my grades. She would yell at me saying, “Your brothers could always get As!
Simultaneously, I let society get into my head making me believe that I was worthless. I was never comfortable in my own skin. Sometimes I would also follow my friends around by not completing my classwork or homework. All these factored in the downfall of my grades.
When assignments and test/quiz material became available, I always kept note of the work and began preparing my study material and practiced. Once finished with the assignment, I would go back several times and reread it and compare it to the grading rubric. This presents my personal perfectionism and concern to the task at hand. (warrant) My biggest downfall this semester would be my lack of vocal participation within the classroom.
Arrange your chores around your study time. Delegate some duties to people in your household if it helps you. If you are on a budget, plan your meals in advance. As an example, I stock up on salads during the week and I let my boyfriend take me to dinner and help me with chores on the weekend.
Stress is something we all go through and over time our stress beings to build up. Many believe that stress starts to impact one 's life by the time they start middle school or the beginning of their teenage years. The transition from elementary to middle school into high school can be very intense. Students become highly influenced by their surroundings which makes them susceptible to descended into unhealthy coping mechanisms. At this point in time their lives are shifting dramatically, they will be encountering many different people.
As a student I have many Weaknesses however I also have strengths which can help me overcome my weaknesses. One of my weaknesses is time management I tend to waste time watching my favorite Tv shows or spend time on social media. Another weakness I have is I tend to loose focus and get bored. those are some weaknesses I have which make me a bad student. In order to overcome those weaknesses I have started being more organized than I ever was, I use things like calendars and planners to mark important dates so I wont forget.
I have bible study, soccer practice, church, and work as well. These interests, activities, jobs, and groups have interfered school work at many points. All this has not set me back to missing assignments or to having failing grades. I did not make any excuses to get my work done or to study for tests. I had a fixed schedule to get all my work done on time or before time.
I will need to be diligent in my courses to make sure I retain the information not only to pass the course but to lead a successful career. I will also need to prioritize efficiently to make sure I’ve completed my assignments before going to the movies and things less important than my education. One thing I will need to work on is staying focused and concentrating on one thing at a time. I have a bad habit of losing interest in things and trying to jump to the next thing. So it will be important for me to stay mindful of that as I further my education.
This source covers many solutions to help relieve stress. For example, something as simple as breathing correctly can help alleviate some stress. Many people breathe with only a small portion of their lungs, resulting in short, small breaths. By breathing through the abdomens, the stress on one’s shoulders and back will be reduced. Exposing oneself to nature can also alleviate stress.
There is no way to avoid stress, but you can not worry yourself about things that you can't control or that you can not
In college, students experience a great deal of stress for the first time in their lives. In the past, they experienced little stresses that came with growing up, but now they experience stress from the real world and it can be overwhelming. The stress in college is more serious than any they had experienced prior because it is a time that will define the rest of their lives. For many, this is the first time getting a loan, the first time having to care for themselves, the first time studying for massive exams, and the first time that their decisions will affect the rest of their lives. The main types of stress college students experience are financial stress, parental stress, class stress, social stress, and self-invoked stress.
So I want to perform a good result in college. And this pressure makes me feel anxiety. Finally, cumulative nature of stress makes me feel tired and unable to cope it, so causing the
it is better to ask for help then let stress affect me and my performance in classes. and counseling does really help because I was talking to someone new and they do not know anything about me and talking to a stranger did help me figure out what was wrong with me because I have to tell everything from the beginning and with new different opinion I was able to get over my stress. The eighth thing I learned is to always keep with me a small calendar to write everything down for example, and appointment, test date, assignment due date, etc. That way I would be more organized and get everything down by it due date.
In 9th and 10th grade my studying habits were very poor and it showed tremendously on test and quizzes. 11th and 12th grade I took the initiative to learn how to study and not procrastinate. This was a challenge for me because test and quizzes took up the most percentage over classwork and homework which means one test or one quiz could drop your grade
