Yes, we all immensely love our furry pets. Yes, it is very difficult and sometimes even upsetting to leave our dogs alone at home. But yes, majority of us work so very often we have to leave our beloved canines alone at home for whatsoever reasons, for short and in cases, longer durations.
It is recommended, due to certain health and well being issues that you should not leave your dog alone at home for too long. Young pooches should not be left alone for periods longer than 2 hours, while the adult dogs can be left alone up to 6 hours a day.

Below is the 5-step training plan that can help you teach your dog to be home alone.
1. TEACH YOUR DOG THE MEANING OF THE WORD “BED”
 Point to your dog’s bed and throw a treat into it.
 Say aloud ‘bed’ and nothing else.
 Perform this task for at least 10 times.
 Do not forget to praise and show affection to your dog if he/she performs good.
2. TEACH YOUR DOG TO LOVE BEING ON THEIR BED
 Regularly throw treats into your dog’s bed without them seeing.
 Appreciate and pet your dog whenever he/she is in the bed
 Send your dog to its bed 20 times a day with the cue ‘bed’.
3. TEACH YOUR DOG TO LAY DOWN ON THEIR BED EVEN WHEN YOU ARE MOVING AWAY
 Point to your dog’s bed and throw a treat into it.
 As the dog continues to remain in the bed, appreciate and praise him/her.
 But if the dog gets up or leaves the bed within 10 seconds, then stop appreciating and ignore the dog for a few minutes.
 Perform these steps over and again, until your dog stays in the bed even after you have left.

 If your pet stays in the bed, do nothing. But if your pet, leaves the bed then make him/her go back to the bed and follow the above steps.
 When you can start leaving your pet for about 5 minutes, proceed to stage 5.
5. TEACH YOUR DOG TO STAY ON THEIR BED, EVEN WHEN YOU LEAVE THE ROOM AND CLOSE THE DOOR
 Send your dog to their bed and leave the room by making a noisy touch to the door.
 Now when you leave, close the door leaving it ajar. Repeat several times.
 Now leave the room, close the door for 2 seconds and enter the room again.
 If you pet remains on their bed, ignore them. But if your pet moves around start stage 5 again.
 Finally, leave the room, close the door and stay out for random periods of time.
 Enter and ignore the dog if he/she has remained in their bed.
Very often dogs suffer from separation anxiety. It is common in humans also. We all might have suffered rom it at point of our lives, on being separated from someone we love.
