Leif Eriksson was a Viking who discovered North America 500 years before Christopher Columbus. Jacques Cousteau was known for his extensive underseas investigations and wrote a book about his adventures. Both Leif Eriksson and Jacques Cousteau explored, discovered, or invented something that changed history. Leif Eriksson found North America hundreds of years before Christopher Columbus. He spent the winter in America and never returned, but his successful journey led to other visits for timber and eventually trade. Leif revealed North America after being blown off course on his way from Iceland to Greenland. Eriksson originally sailed to Norway where he was converted to Christianity by King Olav. While sailing back, he landed in America and named the part he landed in Vinland because of all the grape vines. In America, Leif met Native Americans and learned about their culture and traditions. Christopher Columbus and Charles Lindbergh are two men that are forever in the history of America. Even though they have a 400 years of difference they both are great adventurers. They are also very well known around the world. Ever though Christopher Columbus is from Italy he is in American history and Charles Lindbergh is in French history for example “”The President of France pinned the Legion of Honor upon the lapel of his borrowed suit and thousands of messages poured in upon him.” (Ranfranz).

Although France generated a lot of wealth from the land they controlled in the Northern Americas, nevertheless they lost all the land because they were spending more than they were getting in return, there was not enough people that wanted to go and colonize the land, and the land was invaded by the British.
