He had the potential to go number 1 overall to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavaliers took Brad Daughtery from the University of North Carolina. The Boston Celtics who won the championship the year prior, had the 2nd pick. The Celtics took Bias 2nd overall hoping he would be the net great Celtic. The Celtics could 've been the best team ever with Bias in their lineup. Out of the draft Len Bias was very comparable to Michael Jordan out of college. Before Kareem Abdul-Jabbar spent 20 years in the national basketball association, he was Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor Jr. born in New York, New York. His father was a police officer whom only had one son. Ferdinand stood 5 foot 8 inches at just 9 years old and by time he got to the eighth grade he had already grown a foot, and could dunk a basketball. As a sophomore in highschool he averaged 19 points and 18 rebounds a game, his senior year he averaged 30 points a game. At Power Memorial Academy Ferdinand set New York city school records for scoring and rebounding, all while winning 71 straight games and winning 3 state titles.
Finally, Lennie getting killed in a relatively painless way was the best of all of the options that could’ve happened to him. Slim states “An’s’pose they lock him up an’ strap him down and put him in a cage. That’s no good, George” (pg. 97). Slim is that saying if for some reason Curley didn’t kill Lennie right on the spot, and Lennie went to jail, it would’ve been horrible and Lennie would’ve been treated really badly. Similarly, if Lennie got thrown into a mental hospital it would’ve been torturous because the hospital workers would treat Lennie as if he was insane.
Lennie was unfortunately killed when he could have possibly lived a better life if George gave him the chance. Lennie should not have been killed because he could have potentially been a valuable asset, a good friend to keep company with, and a kind person at heart.
Although they also doubted him. They said he was too skinny and he was too fragile. So Kobe set out to prove everyone wrong. His freshman year his team went 4-20, but even then you could see Kobe’s love for the game and all of his potential. Dr. Omalu brought to light the brain damage issue that was evident in retired NFL players, an issue he challenges the management to speak the truth on.
