Before Leonardo became a man of many crafts he had an eventful life. Leonardo was born on April 15, 1452, in Anchiano, Tuscany. He was born to a Florentine notary and a peasant girl. His full name was Leonardo Di Ser Piero da Vinci. He was raised at his father’s house with his half brothers and sisters. When they realized he was a talented artist they sent him to study with Florence’s most respected artist, Andrea del Verrocchio. He was qualified as a master artist and could join some artists guilds, but he decided to continue working with Verrocchio for 5 years. In fact, today the “Mona Lisa” is hung behind bulletproof glass in the Louvre Museum in Paris, France. The “Mona Lisa” is also believed by some to be a national treasure. In addition, da Vinci’s painting, “The Last Supper” is still studied by art historians infatuated with the distinct attitude of the painting.
This particular painting was painted through the ages of 51 to 53. La Gioconda or Mona Lisa is an oil painting with a base of a cottonwood panel. This painting depicts a women sitting near a window where it gapes outside displaying a repetitive background consisting of rocks and the sea in cool colours as well as the land with swerved paths in warm tones.
