Background:
In the eve of the feast of the passover, Jesus and his twelve disciples sat down at the table to celebrate the Passover meal, this is the their last meal together. At the dinner table, Jesus suddenly felt troubled, and he told his disciples that one of them would betray him, but Jesus didn’t say that man was Judah, and the disciples didn’t know who would betray Jesus.

In the painting 'The Last Supper', by Nicolas Poussin 1640-1649, there are many similarities and differences in comparison to 'The Last Supper', by Jacopo Tintoretto 1592-1594. Nicolas Poussin was a French Baroque painter and Jacopo Tintoretto was an Italian Renaissance painter. These two paintings were painted about fifty years apart, both representing an important event that occurred in the Christian religion. ' The Last Supper' is the last dinner Jesus had with his disciples the night before his death. Poussin and Tintoretto use light and dark colors to create an intense and dramatic scene.

Michelangelo Merisi’s Crucifixion of St. Peter is oil paint on canvas. It is currently on display in the Chapel of Santa Maria del Popolo in Rome, Italy. The image depicts four men and wood that from what we can see is assumed to be a cross .One of the men, wearing just cloth as underwear, that is nailed to the cross by his hands and feet is St. Peter. The other three men are all using different techniques to try and lift the cross to a vertical position where the man would be upside down. The color pallet consists of mostly dark values of red and neutral colors with one pop of bright red, two areas of low saturated yellows, and two areas with low saturated blues.

This piece of art was painted by Andrea Mantegna close to 1450. There are multiple elements and analysis to be made about this painting such as: visual elements, materials, techniques, how this piece was influential, and subjects of matter (people, objects, landscapes,etc.). It will all be divided into three analysis: Formal analysis, Technical Analysis, and Contextual Analysis. There are many visual elements that the artist uses in this piece, but something to be acknowledged about this painting is that it is very well balanced, giving the viewer a nice sense of equilibrium.

The Last Supper depicts the story told in the bible as the last meal Jesus had with his disciples before being crucified. Jesus made the statement that someone would betray him. Thesis work of art is an attempt to catch the chaos in the room after Jesus made the statement. Good Soil Discussion Jesus Christ, an expert teacher, who used parables to reveal the truth to some and conceal it from others. In taking into consideration the audience Jesus was speaking to, one must understand the background and customs of that day. The scene takes place in the area of Palestine and among the people were shepherds, farmers, Pharisees and scribes. It was common in that day for seed to be sown on different types of ground. Some sowed seeds on ground that had not been plowed, and consisted of rocks and weeds.
The Last Supper symbolize Jesus’s Passover meal and his covenant with his people for which on the behalf of mankind he will shed his blood to pay for our sins to be forgiven. In the Bible according to Matthew which stated, “I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house… This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins” (Matthew 26:18-28). Jesus knew that he was near his final moments and was willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good of mankind salvation. Furthermore, during the Passover Jesus even prophecy Judas Iscariot betrayal and Peter’s denial of Jesus.
Art is a way of defining who you are, a way of showing your emotions and applications of our imagination and creativity. Art has and always be a part of this world as long as our humanity exists. For several millenia, people have been creating , criticizing and basking in the fascination of art. What is the difference between a famous piece called, The Last Supper by, Leonardo da Vinci and a drawing made by a highschool student? Mostly, none.
