Many people question what happens behind bars to those who have committed Federal crimes. Are these criminals days filled with eating, being locked up in their cells and an hour outside a day? For many this might be true, but for the inmates in Otisville, N.Y. their days are much different. Otisville has been greatly recognized as having developed one of the best educational programs in Federal prison systems.
For many, we take great advantage of our lives. We are able to walk or drive to a nearby store, grab a carton of milk for two dollars, and drive home within an hour. For others, they do not get such a luxury. We can see these hardships through photographs taken by Jennifer Natalie Fish. She has spent most of her life, twenty-five years to be exact, photographing the lives of many domestic workers and how they live their life every day.
Anthem’s Corrective Detention Vs. Modern Day Prisons and Jails When comparing modern day jails to Anthem’s corrective detention, it can be observed that today’s jails and prisons have strikingly more freedom than the Palace of Corrective Detention. Anthem, written by Ayn Rand, is based on a dystopian society, where the character Equality attempts to be an individual, which results him being thrown in jail. The Palace of Corrective Detention deviates from modern day prisons and jails because of the security, living conditions and the treatment of prisoners.
The Strict Society What if the world based their society on Naturalism and nothing else? How strict would the rules for changing one’s fate be? In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby, the characters live in a naturalist society that changes the way they live. Although the people may not like their life, it is difficult to change it during this time.
Stamina mean the ability to sustain prolonged physical or mental efforts. A speaker who spoke at the Ted Conference talks about the benefits for changing the view on stress: “And participants who learned to view the stress response as helpful for their performance, well, they were less stressed out, less anxious, more confident but… their physical stress response changed” (McGonigal). This shows that if you take stress and change it, it will make it so people are happier and can stay that way Kinda like Charlie. If he would do this he would feel better: “I 've been in the hospital for the past 2 months. They just released me yesterday”
If marijuana users don 't go to jail then they can get to rehab and get proper help for their addiction. Proper help will benefit the user and those around him/her because he/she can help society and everyone around them. C Less cost for prison and incarceration If marijuana smokers don 't go to jail then lots of money can be saved on not having to pay for their needs in jail or spend money on incarcerating them. Every year more than 8 billion dollars are spent on arrests alone for marijuana possession.
Another con of house arrest is that the offender is responsible for paying for his device. This makes it unfair because some offenders may not be able to afford it and have to go to a government facility. Another con is that many people think that house arrest people get off easy. We are in the “Tough on Crime” era in society so people think that the offenders should have to serve out their time in a government facility. And Because they are on house arrest they do not have to be in there house all day every day.
For the most part, people would agree that soldiers should get better wages than athletes. And I agree, partially. Sport players don’t wake up every morning wondering if it will be their last like our soldiers that go out everyday to fight for what's right. However, there are some very convincing arguments that will be provided, persuading you to start thinking different towards our fellow athletes. This will be done by explaining these three reasons: entertainment, hard work, and bringing money to our nation.
Inmates are more likely to have higher rates of infections due to their living conditions and exposure to persons with diseases. In order to reduce mental and medical health costs in the prison system, there are a few suggested strategies. As the warden of a prison system, my administrators and I can try several strategies to promote and increase the recruitment and retention of staff by offering a salary that creates competition, benefits, and additional incentives to the staff are essential. Nevertheless, instead of hiring from a private sector, hospitals or doctor’s office; the prison system can employ a staff of medical physicians of their own. The hiring of reliable and consistent staff can reduce the turnover rates and increase the chances of consistency in staff.
What they don 't see is that by using the money on beneficial programs they can reduce the amount of crime in communities who are crime based. Policing in communities of color is beneficial to the Prison Industrial Complex. Which is merely a form of exploitation that prisoners accused of such crimes undergo. They give their labor in return for nothing. “Prisoners do data entry for Chevron, make telephone reservations for TWA, raise hogs, shovel manure, make circuit boards, limousines,waterbeds and lingerie for Victoria’s Secret- all at a fraction of the cost of ‘free labor’”(Davis 686).
The Dougherty County Jail is 1,230 bed state of art pre-trial detention facility that is under supervision and operation of Dougherty County Sheriff. In addition to pre-trial inmates, the facility houses State, City, and a small number of other inmates for other area law enforcement agencies. The jail facility is unique in that it has two on-site courtrooms that host a variety of court proceedings seven days each week. The jail maintains a high-level of safety and security utilizing current and nationally accepted detention management practices. The jail utilizes inmate labor under the supervision of contracted food services specialists to prepare approximately 3,500 meals daily.
Some of these temporary officers were not interested in making corrections as a career that resulted in high turnover rates. These guards were paid at the lower end of the salary scale and a lack of advancement opportunities that brought dissatisfactions.
