«Les Miserables» is a French historical novel by Victor-Marie Hugo, published in 1862, the theme of this novel was to detect the dark side and decay of the French society at that time. The protagonist of this book is Jean Valjean, he was a prisoner, he had been arrested because of stealing a bread for saving his sister and had been prison for 19 years. After he got out of the prison, he had been rejected by all the hotels and residents because of his yellow passport marks, so he could only sleep on the street, angry and want to revenge on this unfair society. After that, Bishop Myriel gave him a place to stay, and moved Jean Valjean with his kindness. & Mme. Thénardier recognized them quickly, and kidnapped Jean Valjean want to extort him for money. Marius found that they were being kidnapped, and wanted to help, so he called the police, coincidently, this police was Javert. After Javert arrived, Jean Valjean have already escaped, so he arrested M. & Mme. Thénardier and his partners. Those partners of Thénardier included his daughter Éponine, this girl hated his father for his mean and dishonest, because she loved Marius, but his was a student, her father divided them and she also knew Marius fell in love with Cosette. For pleasing Marius, she searched Cosette’s address for him, but this address had also been found by Thénardier, so they escaped from jail and wanted to rob Cosette’s house, but they had been stopped by Éponine. The second day, the students had started the riot, Marius was also a part of them, at the same time, Cosette and Jean Valjean were preparing to escape to England from Javert. Marius and Cosette could only through letters to farewell with eachother. But after Jean Valjean read the letters had written by Marius, he decided to save him, on the street, Éponine had already died for saving Marius, and Marius fainted after he finished his
