Through December 1777 to June 1778, George Washington led the Continental Army through winter camp. The Continental Army was an army of Patriot soldiers who fought against Britain. The Patriots hated Britain for their taxes and laws. So they went off to war. There was just one problem, they did not know how bad the conditions were going to be.
The Great American Smokeout event represents a time when I had to formulate and advocate for a policy. This
Lydia Maria Child was a prolific author, anti-slavery leader, and a massachusetts abolitionist. In the 12th document “Letter to John Greenleaf Whittier, January 21, 1862” from the book and “John Brown’s Invasion: Colonel J. Lucius Davis Lydia Maria Child’s Reply to Gov. Wise, November 19, 1859” from the New York Tribune, Child emphasizes that slavery has infected the foundation of the nation’s life. Although both documents have the comparison of discussing slavery, the letter and newspaper have contrasts in the terms of who is pro-slavery and anti-slavery. The “Letter to John Greenleaf Whittier” is a letter written by Lydia Maria Child to John Greenleaf Whittier, a poet and a massachusetts abolitionist who urged the Lincoln administration for a more conclusive action against slavery. At this time, Child had called for universal emancipation and black enlistment in the military from the beginning of

I am writing this letter because I am disgusted by the way you recently talked about our current president, Andrew Jackson. You insulted the Jackson name with your irrelevant comments about his style of government. Jackson believes the United States should use a type of government called a Jacksonian Democracy. In your article, you criticized him because he is a common man, he created a Kitchen Cabinet, and he uses the spoils system. Jackson being a “common man” was something he should be praised for not criticized for.
The film Dear Zachary, directed by Kurt Kuenne, makes an argument in response to a very specific situation: the murder of Kuenne’s best friend Andrew Bagby and Bagby’s son Zachary, both killed by Andrew’s ex-girlfriend Shirley Turner. Kuenne argues that bail should be denied to anybody accused of a serious crime who also has custody of a child. While this argument is reasonable, it only provides a solution for very narrow circumstances. For the greater protection of society as a whole, an expanded version of Kuenne’s stance on bail laws is necessary. Bail should be denied not only to people accused of a serious crime who have custody of a child, but also to anybody suspect of a violent crime.
During the Civil War , President Abraham Lincoln’s position on the practice of slavery had changed greatly from the start of the war to the end of it. He expresses his views on slavery through a variety of documents: both of his Inaugural Addresses, his letter to Horace Greeley and in the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution. Through these primary documents Lincoln demonstrates his initial feeling toward slavery as indifferent, for his priority was to keep the nation unified. As the war continued he stuck by his desire to keep the unity of the Union regardless of the state of slavery. By the end of the war, Lincoln called the practice of slavery an “offence” and that God “wills” the removal of its practice.
The definition of the word volunteer is to freely offer to do something. Looking at that definition, they word “freely” is key in explaining what volunteering really is. Someone who volunteers should do it out of the kindness of their heart and truly believe in what they are volunteering for without expecting or receiving any recognition of payment for their volunteer work. Although I believe any volunteer work is great not only for our community, but also for the individual, I am conflicted on the Silver Cord program. The Silver Cord program at Waukee High School provides great opportunities for high schoolers to give back to the community and get involved in other volunteering positions, however, do these high schoolers really volunteer their time for the betterment of their community?
Being in the snow isn’t always fun. It is January 1, 1778 and I have been serving my term at Valley Forge. I have been very miserable which has made my experience here dreadful. I’ve finished my time as a soldier but I have the option to re-enlist or come back home.

National Merit Scholarship Corporation Essay – Jacob Klenke Most people of academic achievement ought to be able to readily cite a vast number of supportive mentors. John Donne recognized this through one of his works, stating that “no man is an island”. I am no outlier to this trend, for I have an immensely helpful family, superb educators, and friends that share similar interests in the world of science.
To be an honors student takes a lot of hard work. There are many factors that go into being a successful student. I believe that you must be determined, organized, and disciplined. These three qualities are the key to succeeding in your goals because I have used them all throughout my high school career, and plan to use them in college.
